First off no one wants the ability to buy skill upgrades for real money as that would cause imbalance to the game but what we do have is the character bazaar and this is where my idea comes in.
How about we had the ability for a price to change the name of characters that we got from the bazaar not with completely new names we would have to have the character with the name we want on the same account as the one we want to swap it with.
This would not do anything other than allowing us to move the skills that we all ready have not including the ones on the old toon (your new toon has heavy missile 3 and your old toon has heavy V you would lose the skill as it is just a name swap.)
This does 2 things it stops people from getting mistaken for the old owner and allows you to keep a name that you really like.
As I have tried to point out there would be no real benefit from this other than keeping your name we can already change what they look like so why not this. |

But this idea has been talked about to death. The main consensus I've seen in the past is yes, so long as there is a indicator on what the previous name was and when it was changed.

Yes but that means a complete name change what I am saying is a name swap if you buy from the bazaar first off it must have no kill rights and at least 0.0 sec secondly the name you are changing it too if it's got a bad rep then it's your bad rep anyway and you keep it as you have to have both toon's in the first place.
Maybe limit to bazaar characters only and give the buyer a time limit to exchange names say 3 days.
If this person is wanted or has a bounty then the bounty goes with them and inform the people that placed the bounty that there name as changed if both have a bounty on them then the name change would be disallowed.
you could make it really simple by making it so that you have to swap the name at the same time as you buy the toon so you have no chance of making trouble on the old one and swapping names. |

If you want to buy a toon from the Bazaar and not start from scratch, You are giving up the rights to name that toon what you want.
If you want naming rights, you must roll a new toon and start from scratch.

OP, just a tip.
Any idea you have involving PLEX, ask yourself if there's actually a very good reason to include PLEX.
I'm personally neutral to the whole name changing thing, but IF it were implemented I see no need to require PLEX.
Include any other limit (once a year, once an 'EVE lifetime', only after a bazaar sale, etc.) to avoid people changing their name every day.
PLEX just complicates the discussion and derails it towards 'pay-to-win' or 'CCP-wanting-easy-money' arguments. |
