Edited by: Keeng Berksa on 04/06/2006 23:49:16 Good read, but after reading the chatlog... Next time stfu in local. Its bad policy to start a drawn out conversation with your victims and only gets them ****ed off. Thats my policy and I usually keep it to one or two lines or retaliation... Constantly provoking them and talking is stupid imo. I know it wasnt smack, but still... Its better to let them sit there and get ****ed off.
http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=347293 That is an example of flawless piracy. Continually talking in local and stealing ore (though I wont hold being an ore theif against you) isnt piracy, regardless of the fact that you got kills at the end. At best it is hi-sec griefing (which i still dont have a problem with).

No Mister, they didn't. Actually the chief in the ferox stole from the OP, so the OP had killright upon him. Because of the OP just reacting to an aggressive act TNT-corp didn't get killright upon him. So in fact they attacked him without any killright. I advise you to read about flagging before engaging people in systems above 0.0! According to logs TNT acted like noobs but i have to confess Completeer is right: posting logs ain't a nice thing here though noone can validate them. It's just flamebait.

Well I don't think there is one absolute form of piracy in this game. I've seen solo pirates kill people, blobs just steamroll single ships, etc. All of them are forms of piracy I think. Piracy is usually just some sort of robbery. Ore thieving is robbery, so is ransoming, so is collecting a can after killing someone.
I'd have to disagree with the term high sec griefing though. Being an ore thief, I get a LOT of smack talk like, "you suck, you can't hack it in low sec" and such. The only difference between this encounter in high sec and low sec space would've been the fact that they all could fire on me and I would've been toast in 10 seconds. Most wouldn't consider that much of a kill.
Conversely in low sec space, they wouldn't have had 20 minutes to round up a strikeforce as those mining would be dead instantly and I would be long gone.
That being said, I did fight an older pilot, he was in a more powerful ship so he did have an advantage, especially considered he had 4 others firing on me until they got Concorded. So I don't think it was griefing to any degree. They had time to fit for pvp, they asked for a fight and I obliged. Sure I stole their ore first, but I didn't sit and hide I went from belt to belt continuing to steal so they had a fair 15 minutes to score a kill.
I usually keep quiet in local, but this corp holds a special place in my heart. If I don't talk to them, they just email me various threats or they come to wherever I am at spouting off in local and following me around the belts targeting me and such.
I tried a little dialog this time to come to an even ground of sorts. Like, "hey that was a good fight", and they would say back, "yeah it was. watch your back though cause we will get revenge". Something like that is always nice. It just isn't gonna happen with this corp though.

Just the other day I was 6 jumps away from a system when an ore theif stole mins, my corpmate ingaudged, but the theif was able to warp away, so i jump in a succubus, arm a warp scram, and omw 6 jumps.
I get there, in time, and he is still flashing, so I popped his ship.
Now I understand the honor of a 1 on 1, and if ever asked, i will do so. The other corp mates jumping in is not a way of honor. But why did concord pop them? I am missing something[/q] concord jumped in because they did not steal from his CAN and he did not fire on them only his(OP) corp could jump in to the fight

Today has been quite a day. I was in Tash earlier and ran into what I thought was a macroer's armed escort in a Vexor, but it was actually another player.
He emailed me and told me he read this post and wanted to give it a go. I had looted his can and he almost killed my ore swapping ship. So I go grab my Maller.
I come back and we go at it. I had the upper hand at first, but he got the best of me. Damn those drones and the Vexor's bonuses! He was a younger pilot, but I suspect someone's alt though. Regardless it was a fun fight.
So I decide to hop on my alt and give him a go. Out of the hauler and into a Thorax she goes. He is swapping cans on miners but not hauling the ore so I swap the ore back to my cans.
A few minutes later he warps into the belt flashing red. Hmmm...he must've taken from my can at some point. I try to lock him but it's not working. Damn buggy game, so I warp away. Gate out and back in and warp to the belt. He's gone for the moment.
A moment later he pops back in. This time he's only about 10k from me. I still cannot lock him. Everyone else in the belt is targetable. I wasn't jammed or anything. WTF! I figure well, there goes another ship as his drones encircle me.
Then I get within 1500m of him and it lets me lock him. Stupid overview or something made him have a cargo containers openable range. I lock him, jam, scram and nos. I let loose my drones of destruction.
He's still kickin my butt, even with me jamming him. His drones are too much for my Rax. My armor is at 40% now. WTF! My repper was set to manual, not auto. Grrrr....I switch it to auto, but it shuts off again. It's not my night.
I switch it to auto a 2nd time and fire it back up. At this point he has about 80% armor and I have 20%. He is relentless. All I can do is sit back and hope those drones of mine work some magic for daddy.
CRAP! I am into structure now, 80%.........60%...........meanwhile he is sitting at full structure. I get to about 20% structure and my repper does it's thing just in time too. The battle ends and I am the victor. I had about 15% structure left.
Now that was a fun fight. No trash talk. No crying. No whining. Just a good old fashioned mano a mano battle between two people. I am definitely looking forward to meeting up with him again.
/emote Salutes Stellar and his bravery in battle as well as his good sportsmanship!

People really aren't going to buy much of what you say with that kind of behavior you know.
The reason they all got Concorded was because he looted my can, I didn't loot his until he was dead.
I bet they thought that if one corp or gangmate got attacked they all could open fire. That's the only logic I could come up with. After they got popped I looted their cans, but you don't get flagged for looting the can from a ship explosion since they show up as white cans in overview.
Oh ok, makes sense now

To the OP, are you in a starter corp?
If not, why does'nt TNT just war deq your corp?
We actualy had a can thief try and pick a fight with us this weekend. He saw 6 barges and 3 indies so thought his thorax would have no problems. 30 sec after he stole from the can our drones had poped him. In local he smacked talked us and threatened war. He came back in a vex and stayed out of our scanner range managing to get one of out indies.
I jumed out to grab my BC and between the corp and allies we had 5 BS and 7 BC with an additional 20+ incoming. My CEO sent a msg to his ceo (no idea what was in the msg) but within 6 min it was over and the ore thief and refunded the indie owner and apoligized.
So why has TNT not war deq your corp? And so it begins.... |

No idea why not. I am not in a starter corp so I'm not sure the reason. They outnumber us by quite a bit too, plus most of my corp doesn't hang around those parts, so they'd be stuck picking on me 99% of the time.

Well done, but at the same time, you can't really claim 5v1 anymore than they can claim 1v1, and dumb mechanics.
It was really 5v1+Concord fleet. Of course, if someone tries to 1v1 a sentry gun, then I guess the pool of sympathy doesn't have to be any deeper than necessary for them to drown in.
He was obviously gonna lose, and whether they knew concord was gonna pop-em or not, or whether it's lame to interfere in a 1v1 (it pretty much is if you care about that sort of thing), they accepted the known loss to try to tip the odds and that has a hint of something upstanding in it too. Even if we don't like the form it takes, that brotherliness is a good thing to have. But yeah, they obviously don't know combat mechanics, but that's ignorance rather than stupidity.
As for their hobbies being lame, well, they're probably too little time in the game or too long a time in empire to really comprehend why what they're doing with Apocs in a +0.5 belt is unfortunate.

Hi folks. I just started out and it's reading things like this that makes me curse my job and just want to run home and delve into this cool game again :p
However I would be very thankful if someone could explain a bit about how the whole don't-open-other-peoples-cans thing works. As I gather, I can shoot someone who opens a can I have personally jettisoned (he should start flashing and be attackable for the next 15 minutes?). And how about people in the thief's gang? If I can't fire on all of them it means they can go around in pairs, one tiny cheap ship to open up my cans and jettison his own cans and one big hauler to pick it up? And if I try and steal back my ore from the thief-hauler can, do I get flagged myself? Also, are they allowed to fire back at me without concord coming once I've rightfully attack them?
Sorry about all these questions but I feel utterly clueless and this seemed like a good place to ask :p Mind you, I don't ever intend on mining if I can help it, but I still need these things straightened out.
Thanks
