My current computer monitor is dieing I think, its a huge 20" viewable beast CRT. After it warms up it switches from normal width and goes wider so that the start menu is offscreen, so I have to use the control menu to make it better, although everything looks different, a bit squashed after I do that.
Anyhow, what advice does everyone have on monitors. I know CRTs are better for 3D gaming, although LCDs are catching up I hear, but still have their own problems(ghosting). And does anyone know of any websites that have done any monitor reviews lately. Any recommendations or thoughts you have on buying a new monitor, or websites that have advice on it.
I am unsure of if I want to go with another CRT or LCD. I am sure I do want it to be at least 18" viewable, and have 1600x1200 recommended resolution.

Oh and please post if you recommend any specifically monitor company. I know NEC used to make badass monitors that lasted long and were just great all around.

I would reccomend a ViewSonic VX912, tis excellent - 19" of bliss, got mine the other week after my other 19" tft stopped working, 8ms response time is fine for me and i've noticed no ghosting at all in many games, movies etc. Mine also had no dead pixels \o/ a few hours in one that was stuck on green was flickering so i poked it and its gone.
If you want the same good quality but a quicker response time there always the VX922, 2ms

Not sure where to find reviews tbh, might be some user reviews on ebuyer.co.uk or some other online retailers. -------------------------------------------

you wont get any real side effects from lcd's now for games. especially the sub 8ms response time varieties and take up a lot less space.
this is mine and cost ú270 from dabs when i bought it.

LCD, the only reason not to buy is the cost, and they are well worth getting over CRT.
I upgraded from my old Dell 17" CRT to a Xerox 17" LCD. And before even turning it on, the first thing you will notice is. OMG MY DESK IS SO BIG NOW! They take up so little room compared with ****** CRT's.
Also LCD have no problems with ghosting as long as you dont buy the cheapest of the cheap. I cant talk about the professional colour stuff as Im no pro.
I love my new monitor. It is different to 99% of other LCD monitors out there as it has a Glass-fronted screen. Helps protect the fragile screen, makes easier cleaning, and actually helps give a better picture.

You can get it in a 19" version aswell.

The hands down winner for gaming screens at the moment is the Dell 24" 2405FPW, No one has anything bad to say about it
Haveing said that, if it's out of your pay bracket, check out this thread at pcgamer uk forums -> http://forum.pcgamer.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=83367

I'm very happy with my 19" P-series CRT Viewsonic (please don't buy an A series from a chain store, hehe). Its got the super bright which can make some games look great, and can do some ridiculous resolution, like 2400xsomething, I believe, not that anyone would ever really use that.
I got it for like $280 shipped like 4 years ago. I probably do plan on switching to an LCD sometime in the future, but I think a CRT like this is hard to beat for the money.
