What is the main function of your barge's midslot? Shield booster, Ore survey? I'm interested to know because currently I am about to begin mining in my new barge and cant figure out what to place there.

MWD, get used to mining w/o a surveyor and guessing when the roid should be finished (yes I know it is a lagre hit or miss window) barges are just too darn slow, unless you have BMs for your spots in belts that you mine often, then you can skip the MWD. just my $.02.

I like to know how long my crokite roids have left so I can get ready to setup a new mining spot as soon as possible

First of all, wrong forum. You want the ships forum.
Second of all, you're not going to be able to put on a MWD if you use a mining upgrade module in the low slot and modulated strip miners in the high slots, both of which are standard fittings for a barge with anyone with a moderate amount of skill.

I fit a racial Jammer for the race specific rats, works wonders if you have the advanced skills as well.

Strip Miners High
Cap Recharger/Ore Scanner/racial specific ECM (if you can fit it with the mining upgrade)

Well when I put the question in the ships forum I got back a response about how to fit one with 2 noses.
I am not looking to waste a 8M investment on something my Arbitrator can do far better. I want to mine.

Barges rule for mining.
I went from a Retriever -> Covetor -> Hulk and just picked up a Mackinaw the other day
For the Retriever & Covetor I used the modulate strips II's with T1 crystals (high), survey scanner/hardener (mids), mining module/coproc/small armor rep.
For the Hulk, it is survey scanner and hardeners in mids; since it tanks all rats down to 0.5 with my skills.
I use my drones to kill the rats and if the it gets in to armor, which happens with the Retriver and Covetor; then the armor rep takes care of that.

Personally, I fit a target painter to help out the cover ship in 0.0. Hard to fit much of anything else after that mining upgrade mod. In empire, meh, whatever will fit after harvies/strips in the highs plus the mining upgrade in the low. I can see the merit of a mwd, but you don't need speed if you bother to make instas.

this depends on what sec the system is and if you solo mine or in group op's
solo in >0.7 roid scanner
solo and group 0.6-0.5 scanner booster so you can target rats at greater range or target painter
<0.4 anything that helps the guard thats helping you

Also Depends slightly on your Barge, I can't speek for the Covetor yet, but anyhow...
My usual loadout (note my mining skills arn't 100% top yet, so can't do T2 stuff) is...
Hi: 2 strip miner Is (bigger if you can fit em) or Ice Miners, Depending on what I'm After
Mid: Small Named Sheild Extender, To aid in taking flack from Rats
Low: Nanofiber and Sm Armor Repairer, to fix it up when they get through the shields.
Running with 4 light drones (or 3 light, one med) I haven't run into any major trouble with Rats in .5 as long as I'm paying attention, But I wouldn't solo mine in a barge in .4 or lower, you just can't get away in time. Stick to the osprey for that :)
