Right I wont mention any names, but last night one of new members was attacked and podded in low sec space. First time, and he was understandably a little miffed. Most of the corp was a little busy and far from him so took us 30 mins to get over to where he was.
We proceeded to send a scout into the system in question to find the pirate and lock him ups so the rest of us could engage. Understandably he ran and docked up.
I came to the decision I wasnt gonna waste mine and my pilots time waiting for him and decided we would come back later. Pirate in question opens a convo with the pilot he had popped, and i asked my member to invite me to it too.
In this convo, I found out that my member was a little rash and had smacked the pirate. Which when I found out profusely apollogised for. I dont like smack, and dont tolerate it. my pilot is now on a warning about it.
But the level of attitude I was getting from a 2 month old pirate was unbelievable.
At the end of the day show some respect for people that actually talk to you politely and with respect.
/ END RANT 99% of the above is said in RP. The Other 1% is personal, and should be taken that way. :P

/Signed We can fight, lose or win, but respect have to be part fo the process. My corp and my alliance are both against smack, and I am first of all, even if sometimes some situations with smack in local or in forums go on your nerves more then what u can store... and u explode. I found myself smacking few times and after feeling idiot to have lowered lvl of conflict. I remember when I got smacked once because I wasn't intending to undock into a system with 4 friendly adn 90 hostiles, with 9 bubbles outside station a huge fleet within lol :) _______

Respect and professionalism will get you far in todays PvP games.
Smacktalk and other stupid-type behaviors went out of style with Bonedood and Platedewd in the late 90s.

Why are people so upset with smacktalk? I really couldn't care less what other people on the other side of the ocean say or think of me.
Not that I wanna defend the people who do it nor do I smack myself, but I see no rhyme or reason for the concept:'There has to be respect'. Bull****.
Say you blow someone ship up. Maybe the guy has a T2 BPO printing ISK for him, so he doesn't care. But if its the 6th battleship someone loses that week, and now he's broke, or if he spent a month ratting in the few hours he got to play to pay for that ship, do you honestly blame him for being upset and wishing you'd go to hell?
This is a game yes, but its not Counterstrike or WoW where 30 seconds after you die, you stand up again without any loss. The fun of this game is that you can actually lose stuff you worked for for months, but IMO with that comes the fact that some people will be upset over said loss.

I think you misunderstood. It was my member who smacked and got called up on it by me. It was the pirates attitude that got to me, it was uncalled for imo considering I was nothing but polite to him.
Personally I have been playing ages now and can remember the days of respectful fleet engagements and pirates that have honour.
As I said what got to me the most was this 2 month old character telling me to bring it with as many corpies as I wanted as he would "kill us all". 99% of the above is said in RP. The Other 1% is personal, and should be taken that way. :P

Edited by: FFubar Frog on 06/06/2006 09:44:09 Lets look at this from the other point of view. Your pilot started smacking in insecure 0.0 space and got blowen up. This so called pirate convoved you, talked to the pilot involved AND what I assume is leader or CEO of the corp. And you feel because he has been in the game less time than you (you keep posting how hes only been in game 2 months) he should show you respect.
I dont know either of you, and have only heard your side of the story, and yet im still on the "pirates" side.
edit: Props for putting the hard word on your own pilot though. Reigning your guys in and enforcing your corp policy is all good in my books.

I'm noticing more and more people willing to smack and hurl abuse in local these days. I would guess that while it may in part be due to a change in attitude, it's also a result of the fact that there are more people on these days and some of those people smack talk.
None of the corps I have ever run has tolerated smack talk. Good to hear that JIT still has a firm hand at the tiller Nim. Would be good to catch up some time.

I always thought it would be cool to get some sort of Geneva Convention in EvE, that corps and alliances could sign and support that might include things like engagement rules as well as friendly playing rules, though I guess Pirates will be Pirates.
Anyways it looks like you do you're corp good, dont worry about the smacktards.

Face it. Most People in this game wouldnt even think of saying BOO in the outside world for fear of being having there teeth kicked in by a 3 yr old. So they have to act out in a game to make themselves feel Big.
If you try to talk to someone about one of your Members behavior. And the Person exhibits that sort of behavior. Evidence would be your member was not the agitator in the first place. The SIg They said suddenly I couldnt have |

Quite typical of an arrogant ASCN member to be quite honest.
