So after reading the patch notes, i swap out my 650s for 800s (tempest) and just to be safe go ratting. While I did score some nice damaging hits, I didn't really notice an increase in dps. Please note that my tests were not extensive, but for other people, do you feel it is worth cpu and pg to upgrade to 800s? . Tuxford: "Besides I've got the nerfbat now, tremble in fear"

As far as i know the AC changes didn't make it in, like all the ship changes and such. They'll be added in a week or two according to the patch notes.

Expect Sarmaul Soon. Top tier ACs do need a little DPS increase (5% or something similar)

I dont expect pilots to start using 800's for a 5% damage boost... It won't be worth the sacrifice you make in fittings... Ison's notches more notches |

I can't see it being increased by more than that and staying balanced

Edited by: Isonkon Serikain on 06/06/2006 21:44:05 Just out of curiosity, what's the average DPS difference, when its all said and done, between a full rack of mega ion blasters and the neutrons?
Ps, Im training t2 missiles... screw projectiles anyways... Ison's notches more notches |

The guns are getting a DPS increase by being able to hold more ammo (+50% more in fact), so you spend less time reloading and more time shooting stuff. They are not recieving a change to the rate of fire or damage mod.
Yes, we would all like to see a DPS increase to all autocannons, but seeing as it took a solid page of maths just to get +50% ammo to top-tier autos, I'm not holding my breath.

But you do concede that they could use a bit higher damage mod... Ison's notches more notches |

Update quickfit and see hwo much more DPS you do with the top tier ones.
Think it this way though, tux didnt raise them to the point of absoleting 650's, but prolly to the point where they're a good choice for those who want a solid alphastrike-esque AC.
If you're ratting, I think it'd be smart to mix 3x 800's with 3x 650's, best of both worlds and you get the slightly better range for earlier engagement and probably higher overall DPS. ---------------------------------------- Friends Forever

He probably does not!
since he knows that 800mm get 4.85% DPS boost over 650s, and that it would not be possible to boost 800s without boosting 650s, and that every other gun also rhoughly gets 4-5% incrase in dps from one tier to the next!
and just for your pleasure, 800s on a tempest do, 9.35% more DPS than ions on a megathron! you got 6guns, giving u effective 6.6 guns vs our 7, [also neutrons stil impossible to fit, so ions vs 800s,] but u have double the range!
but id say, uping the dmg mod by 3x, and lowering the rof by 3x would be very ncie!

looking at NB chart it seem to me that 800mm on a tempest do around 10% less dmg than neutron on a mega
considering that a tempest have 2 dmg mods doesn't seem really impressive to me...
and this time proj have also less alpha strike so is not the same as for arty where proj have less overall dps but the alpha keep it balanced...
in my opinion atm ACs need some love in "direct" DPS, for sure to do less reloads is good but i don't think it really close the gap between other short range weapons
in my opinion they should increase their "direct" DPS, or make them big alpha hitters (as arty) and stay with current dps.
also imo ACs use too much ammos, for PvP it could be not a big issue, but in PvE ther's not much space left for loot (and in some lv4 missions you have to stop to a base to reload more than once)

The main advantage of 800mm ACs is that you use less ammo, I tend to use them for npcing and d650/d450 for PVP.
