After I logged off last night because lag was making things impossible (this isn't a whine about lag) I looked at the forums. Somebody had helpfully posted a link to an Internet Health site. A backbone in Denver was suffering.
Knowing that there was one poor Polaris guy trying to control a riot on the help channel. I logged back in and posted the information in the hope that it might calm things down a bit.
Here's the response I got from one a**ehole ...
"Shut up you idiot you don't know what your talking about"
Needless to say, I was incenced and let fly myself with a few choice words before I logged back out again.
I was kinda wondering how many Eve players have never been in a situation where talking to someone like that in real life would get them a broken nose. Believe me if that guy had been standing near me when he said that he would need re-constructive surgery.

Edited by: Sphalerite on 25/09/2003 09:43:11 The internet enables people to many things that are not generally acceptable things to do in real life. Shouting random rude comments and making idle physical threats against strangers are two great examples thereof.

Well so a backbone in Denver was down , does that explain why i had the ridiculous lag in LONDON. I don't think it does , lets stop lookin for excuses for CCP !!! Most people i think will agree that it's CCP fault what with lag , stuck chars , memory leak and daily reboots. Are these really all to do with a backbone in Denver havin problems on one day ? CCP could at least acknowledge the problems and apologise, but no we have to find flimsy excuses for them while they keep us the paying customer in the dark about what is goin on

That's not the point of the thread Boneca.
I was trying to avoid another lag thread and point out that people should be less abrasive.
Telling me to shut up and calling me an idiot is not acceptable behaviour when I'de just pointed out what MIGHT have been causing some of the lag people were experiencing.
Where I come from people with attitudes like that learn how to behave the hard way.

I'ven't even tried to play this week... I just made some test to undock/warp to next belt and test how it works...Monster lag...Half shield gone before I can reply with my Beams
It was only a 0.4 belt, and I only got an Omen :/
Waiting for REALLY GOOD work from CCP on lags. This is priority nŠ1 IMO. Don't add stuff. Make the game playable. Then you can add whatever you want. I don't think adding content to keep players on is the solution. You add content but the game is unplayable... I prefer a lack of content and a lag-free (at least, like it was some patches ago) game, than a 20 volumes encyclopedia of space stuff that I could only use as wallpaper
C'mon...DON'T ADD STUFF, FIX THE LAGS !!!

Edited by: slothe on 25/09/2003 14:57:40 the term you use ie "rude young" i find is synonomous.
the younger the ruder.
im not going to go on about the youth of today etc but i do find it depressing to say the least that any comment made in the forums can be unjustifiably critiscised and flamed for no apperent reason..
PLEASE NOTE I DO NOT MEAN ALL YOUNGER PEOPLE ARE RUDE OR ALL OLDER PEOPLE ARENT, I BELIEVE GENERALLY YOUNGER PEOPLE SWEAR MORE ( SRY CAPS)
it has happened to me on occasions and i see it happening to others.

Unfortunately forums everywhere tend to have these 'keyboard heroes.' Just ignore them

I'm 29 myself and agree in a general sense, but bear in mind that Cao Cao for example has used some of the ugliest language I've seen on the forums, and if I've read his posts correctly he is an attorney, and as such has to be minimum 25 yrs old.
I think the "I can say anything I want online" disease is more common among some people than others, but I think youth is only one element. SavX I believe has posted his age as 14 or something, and he seems reasonably well mannered.

Edited by: Thrawll on 25/09/2003 15:07:40 Alas Thanatar. If only you'd been here in the years before EVE went gold. The community consisted entirely of intelligent, witty, and well-mannered people. Well, almost entirely. There were a few exceptions, but for the most part, they were easy to ignore. Now a days, you can't read one f*cking thread without running into some half-wit remark, a flame or two (or far more), an annoying post in all-caps, and so on and so forth.
The blithering stupidity that has completely taken over and dominated these forums is one of the primary reasons I'm done with this game.
Some day someone ought to make a MMO RPG of some sort that is invite only. It would have to be a low-grade low-bandwidth sort of game, otherwise they'd never recoupe their costs. But seriously, this game has a community that's generally less intelligent then most that I found in Starcraft when I played that so many years ago (maybe because that game actually took more intelligence that knowing how to left click/right click/double click?).
To the board-*****s: you can sit back in your chair at home thousands of miles away from me and poke fun at me. Maybe it makes you feel big and tough. Maybe you're ****ed off at someone and just need a vent. Maybe it makes you feel like you've tacked on a few IQ points to add to your sub par total. Either way, one remark such as the ones you flamers specialize in to someones face, and it could quite possibly be the last words that come out of your mouth. "Accidents" happen.
