Edited by: Talken on 08/06/2006 16:05:02 Yes, I did post about this before but hardly anyone looked at it months ago so here we go again...ne of the thing that has irked me a little bit about all massive games like this is the lack of...real world aspects that would create an even more believeable environment, and one thats a bit more fun.
I would like to see a lottery system that is basically exactly like what we have in the real world. Electronic tickets are bought and stored in the wallet, are able to be transferred between characters if you wished, with a drawing once a week or once every two weeks.
As far as the math is concerned I was thinking of a ticket costing 10k, a very small amount to almost anyone in EVE, with a starting jackpot of say 100mill. What that means is for the economy to stay equal...no growth or recession from a single lottery...only 10k tickets would have to be sold. With over 100k active accounts, and the small price of a ticket I don't think that would be out of the realm of possibility. If nobody wins then the pot grows bigger and more people purchase tickets.
As stated the only thing that this would add would be a bit more fun as it would be a random pick of the numbers and everyone would be holding their breath to see who won. Now there might be the case of people with lots of money spending tons and tons of money on one lottery but even if that person wins then it means that even more money has been drained from the economy overall. If that rich person doesn't win then they are out the 1 mill or whatever they spent. It may not be much in the overall scheme of things but anything that would drain a bit of money out of the economy while adding some fun for the players would be a good thing.

If you want it, set it up.
That's all the lottery is in the real world - you pay money to people and they then pay out. The tools are all there, use them.
Yes there is the trust issue, but certain corporations/people have enough people who trust them that they could do this - and accounts could always be made available to neutral observers.

I've thought about doing it but lets take a look at the issue of doing such...perhaps I'm just missing something...
The lottery concept itself is simple, as is generating the random numbers etc... However in order to do it you would have to keep a record of every single "ticket" sold. Then send the tickets out, which in this case would be all eve-mails unless there is a way to do it that I'm not aware of. The logistics involved of handling that massive number of tickets by hand, writing out that many e-mails to handle it all in-game would be so time consuming that it would be impossible to do and still have time for real-life and having fun IG as well.

And a point I didn't make in the last one...the lottery is also designed to try and drain a little bit of money out of the system...it wouldn't make a huge, visible impact but still...The only way to do this would be to have it coded into existance by CCP and implimented through IG NPC corps otherwise the money is just changing hands, not being drained.

Do you really think this is important enough for CCP to waste Dev resoureces on? Especially since there are already a lot of these happening, so like the Big Lottery mentioned above that have an excellent reputation? --- The Advanced Drone Control Panel. |

I'd like to see a NPC run lottery. With Eve being so cut throat and so many scams going around, many are very wary of player run schemes regardless of how honest those schemes may be. Even if tickets were 10K and the payout relatively low at 80% of income generated by tickets, it would be an isk sink but still allow players to make a modest fortune.
OK an issue that's sort of related here.
Many players have several ideas. Shops and lottery and various other things that have been brought into the game by different people.
The main problem here is advertising media. Short of can spamming every system which people tend to ignore anyway, there is no way to advertise your trade or scheme.
Several times, I have seen things suggested here that have already been done by players. Banks, player shops etc and now the lottery. However, without forum whoring, you don't get to find out about these ideas.
What I propose is an advertising board. When you open up the IGB, the first link should be to player advertising. This takes you to a IGB page with lists of adverts for services offered by players. This is done in a kind of list style and has the ability to allow you to create your own link to an IGB page with you specific advert. The Big Lotto is a link to the page shown in the link above for example.
If we could actually advertise on Eve without resorting to can spamming or Escrow spamming, things would be so much easier.
