At the moment i'm 3 days into the game, flying a Cormorant with 5x 150mm Rail 1. 1 Civilian Shield Booster and 50mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates.
I know the items are crap, but can I do anything with them or got any tips what I should do, and how to do it?

I think you will find you have a much much easier time if you step down into a frigate for your first pirating experiences.
Sure you won't be doing quite as much damage but you are much much smaller making you alot harder to hit, eg going up against a cruiser your destroyer would be taking full damage from every shot it fired, whereas in an orbiting frigate its guns will have trouble tracking you.
Something to think about _________________

well here is my advice... if you are truly only 3 days into the game are you 100% sure this is what you want to do? At that skill level getting down is easy, getting back up is one hell of a *****, you lose access to alot of systems, you lose a freely available market, you are able to be engaged by anyone, anywhere. (This is once you hit -5)
It's not easy and if you don't have some way of making ISK around it all you can end up in a very big hole, I'm not trying to put you off it or anything but just make sure it's where you wanna go.
Also by looking at your Cormorant setup I can see you have alot to learn about ship setups too. I heartfully reccomend doing some Kill missions / hunting NPCs before you go down the pirate route, Firstly to get to know your ships and what the can and can't do. Secondly to give you a bit more time to maybe talk to some people who know what they are doing and maybe find a corp that can show you the ropes / help you out with ship losses etc etc.

You are ready when you have enough cash to buy some frigates, oufit them with an afterburner/mwd and a scrambler and can afford to lose them too. Frigates > Destroyers for belt piracy (though a cormorant with ECM might work surprisingly well too). Just play around and see what works for you. Remember skillpoints do make a major difference, as does actual experience.
Avoid becoming outlaw for the next 1-2 months (which means no podding) unless you absolutely want to. Just be aware that at this point of your character development you have no real means to raise your security status. Get used to how things work and what you need. Then when you feel comfortable you can become an outlaw.

If you absolutely MUST be naughty at this early stage, go with the kestrel. I'd faaaar prefer an Incursus or Rifter but since you're Caldari and so young I'm guessing you can't be very picky. Kessies of course have nice damage but they're slow and you probably can't fit a full rack of launchers together with other pvp stuff (scrambler/webber/shields etc) at this early stage :(
Good luck though, whatever you decide to do

my advice would be dont go with a kessie, go with a condor*, there very fast and excellent at hit and run tactics so you shouldnt lose too many :).
edit: i dont pirate anymore, just to let isss know so i dont get roasted ;\

Kestrel is a fine ship for noob pirating. Very high damage output, not that fast but definately faster than a cruiser.
If you prefer guns, a Merlin/Condor is a decent choice. Condor is better for tackling, Merlin for damage.

The problem for you is that once you become a pirate is very hard to do anything else because you security status will drop and you will be restricted to low sec space. Another option for you is to create an Alt to try out being a Pirate and if at any point you want to try out other aspects of the game you have a fall back. I would suggest that you build up you main for a month or two and use it to generate income to support your alt. A noob pirate is going to have a tough time generating income to buy all those replacement ships. Pirate=lose a lot of ships. |

I found this simply to not be true, i started out as pirate from day one, got myself into a punisher (as i was amarr) used a setu posted on these forums and had great succes, i managed to get some ransoms, and even kill a 1.2 mil true sansha that droped very nice loot.
Since then i moved up and now fly a cruiser and my best ransome yet was a zealot (mwahahaha) that i ransomed for 50 mil which is aprox 30 cruisers with my current setup.
U can engage in piracy with confidence, as long as u choose ur targets u can get a nice kill to loss ratio. Your sec status won't drop fast enoughf for u to get alarmed, to put things in perspective i have been pirating my whole life in eve and my current sec status is -1.9.
A decent frig (insured) + setup (only t1) will set u back about 100k, if u manage to ransome a cruiser u will gain min 1mil so for every cruiser u ransome u get to replace 10 frigs.
Hope this helps. P.S. YARRRR ********* buhuhu... ********* |

I can only assume that's a very short life in eve, or you've been leaving pods alone

It's not a long life, and yes i mostly don't pod. I try to catch them but a cruiser dosen't lock very fast:). And i also rat when i get a chance.
I mostly try to ransome. When that dosen't work i pop the ship and try to catch the pod. Then ransome the pod and pop it if the owner dosen't pay.
I didn't catch many pods (I like to think that is because i am a good negociator and ppl pay the ransome:P) ********* buhuhu... ********* |

Hi there. I must say I started just as fresh as you are now into piracy. I undocked, in the rookie ship, went to a belt, stole a can, guy started shooting at me in a similar rookie ship, I started shooting and by some luck or something he died. I felt the thrill and didn't stop since. Next I had an executioner with beams I think (can't remember well) and layed cans through systems and got a few kills, but also died a few times. The most important thin is I got a little bit of experience.
I have not moved up to cruiser size untill recently. Why? Because frigates are cheap and replaceable and with two friends managed to kill even battlecruisers.
You need to be able to fit a frigate with an AB, spped helps coupled with your small size, a scrambler (7.5 km) and if you have anotyher med slot a webber.
You also need to put on some tank, and as the medium slots are taken you must be able to put on a small plate and a small armor repairer, or variations on that theme: nio repairer but a big plate...
Theres is also another option, mostly applyable when in gangs, where you put on highs slot modules best fitted for your skill level and ship, and ab, scrambler, web in meds with damage modifiers in lows. This leaves you with no tank but you deal a lot of damage.
For a kestrel.... I can't say that much but heres my guess: 4*rocket launchers, 1mn AB, 7.5km scrambler, 1 webber, in lows: 2*bcu or 1 bcu and something to help you fit it (pds or something) or the bigest plate you can fit and a pds or something.
Make other frigates your target at first, untill you get more experience. Try to ransom them, 150k, 200k, based on how fast youy kill them, how old they are and so on. You could also just blow them up and get the loot in the can.
Cheers. Rina.

Kessie
4 x rockets 7.5km scram, webber, 1mn ab BCU, small armour rep
That is hot to trot for frig, mining cruiser or barges up to medium, (watch out for drones though).

I'm one about a week into my trial, and I'm lso thinking of Piracy. I love role-playing, and the idea of an "honorable Pirate" is something that casn be fulfilled in almost no other game. Currently, I have a Velator, Navitas, Maulus, and Tristan. I hada Catalyst even for a few hours, but I made a mistake in hi-sec space and the next thing I knew, my pod was just floating there and I got an EVEmail informing me of the loss of my ship. Cursed CONCORD.... Anyway, right now I'm flying the Tristan, with a Medium Beam Laser 1 and a Med Modal Laser 1. THe only other systems I have right now are a civilian shiled booster, but I'm learning some skills for Missiles. I'm really afraid to get in over my head, so I'm wondering where someone with this set-up would be an effective Pirate... ANy suggestions?
