This idea is quite simple really,
you launch one or more of these drones and they orbit the ship. All they do is attack drones that are shooting (webbing, nosing) the launching ship.
As a Domi pilot myself I'm not quite sure if this isn't a too powerfull counter to drones, but I thought it's at least an interresting enough idea to have it discussed. --- The Advanced Drone Control Panel. |

Sounds interesting to me. Would they focus fire and kill the drones, or just chew on them at random?
If I was in charge, defender missiles would hit drones. Anything that can hit a missile in flight could pick off a Hobgoblin no problem.

Well you can do this already with current drones, the big difference is, you wouldn't have to target and lock them and then send your drones against the attacking drones manually.
The disadvantage is, you couldn't send these drones against other ships. --- The Advanced Drone Control Panel. |

Edited by: Del Imbrhir on 12/06/2006 17:41:21 As I see your idea, the advantage would be even more interesting for a domi user ;-)
As you could have a set of these + others like heavy drones. In case you're attacked by drones, you could scoop your regular drones, and launch those anti drones.
On most other ships, it would be more penalizing as every anti drone in your bay is one less combat drone.
I'm not sure I made it clear, but well... It's a bit like missile launchers and defenders. I'm far from being a missile expert, I can't tell how popular and useful defenders are, but I would think they aren't that much used as for real missile users it's more a penalty for your DPS. The dilemma is of the same kind.
That said, my thought is it could be fun to have anti-drone drones. It's always better to have more option and this one could bring a new element of surprise in combat.

Smartbombs are probably a better solution. If there were FoF rockets, that might work, too. If Defender drones were 2m3 in size it would be pretty cool. Five of those in a Caracal or Blackbird would help mitigate their glaring, horrible weakness to drones.

Smartbomb take up slots all the time and are useless 95% of the time, while drones have the advantage that if you have enough space you can have multiple sets. Smartbombs also have huge risks when used in hi-sec space.
Personally I was thinking more along the lines of current drone sizes with equivalent damage to current drones. This would already be a huge danger to drone users, espeically to those ships that choose not to mount guns and making them any smaller might disadvantage attacking drones too much. --- The Advanced Drone Control Panel. |
