First off, please only comment constructively, I am interested in what other people have to add to what I am about to suggest.
As Chaos is considered a "test" server it would make sense to me that it trully be treated as such. This meaning that it would be used as an "open beta" of sorts but for patch progression purposes. Having the test server open to outside non-subscriber players (non-paying customers) would mean a few things:
1.) The patches would be more thoroughly tested helping to squash bugs that occur only when the patch is put under a lot of stress (TQ). 2.) Comments would possibly be more objective being that these people wouldn't have characters on TQ. 3.) As there are more testers (upwards of hundred's I would think) - patches would be ready quicker.
Now, people may argue that letting non-paying customers play the game for free would be unfair but I bed to differ. Letting people download the executable and patches / playing the game on test server does nothing to hurt anyone. Everyone, dev's, players, and most importantly the game itself will benefit from the system I have proposed. Faster patches means more content / better quality content / bug fixes much faster then what we currently have.
I think it behooves the Dev's to stronly consider such a proposition as many people feel this patching process is indequate. It simply is not fair / just to _expect_ paying customers to test new content, though it should be an option for those that fancy it.
*I would like to point out that I do spend a few hours a week on the Test server but I feel we need more*
I'd really appreciate it if someone from Polaris, Dev team, whatever, would let me know that my idea would be brought to the proper authoritie's attention.

I'd rather not have that.
If people test the game, and come to the Chaos server with people blowing stuff up left and right, they will not get a good view of what eve *is*, rather, they will see what testing it is like.
Good way to repel future customers.

Chaos is a small machine. It is capable to manage about 50 players. At downtime Chaos is very laggy. Therefore more players/testers makes no sense here. All the arguments you wrote are actually one: "More players->better testing". The code on Chaos is not really Beta Code. It is based on the code for TQ with some additions for the next patch. It tends to have less bugs on the main game features. Only new modules should have a higher bug rate. Because of this it is not what you call a Beta testing server. Chaos is a service for all TQ players. It is a place where they can test old and new stuff without risk.

Such is what happens when any game is beta tested.
I was not aware that the Chaos server was lacking so much in hardware though, so my suggestion would require a whole new hardware setup which I doubt CCP is going to spring for.
Thanks for the comments, but I still feel something should be looked into that would bring more people to the testing table.

Oh man, you should not have told us that. Here I thought it was a lack of players going on Chaos. If more players can't test at any given time, then how are we going to ever have better quality patches?

Cool, congrats.
Oh, stupid idea by the way.

It is common knowledge that Chaos is a single machine.
Personally the problem that I noticed with the last patch, is that what was applied to TQ was NOT what we last tested on Chaos.

Chaos has less direction as people only go there to test, any serious gaming is discouraged. and testing guidelines arn't given.
use the in game new page to tell us what to test in chaos and we'll start testing. otherwise we'll continue to throw battleships at each other like we do now _______________________________________________ Ahaahhhh you didn't count on my loyal army of Prostitutes did you? |

Toke, you should have a look at the sticky topics of this forum. There is a special IRC channel for Chaos testing - use it!
This is not the right place to discuss the useage of the chaos server. Lets close this topic.
