Before I go ahead and do this, I want to ask a random question to all of GD:
I was thinking of starting a design contest. I want to get some of the lurkers of the forums to voice opinions, and hopefully hear from people the things they think could be added to the game. There would be a prize, of course, it would be more substantial to space poor people than people like tenla amarr or spaceship barbie, but, hey- prizes are prizes.
So, fellow capsuleers- how many of you are creative and willing enough to enter an unofficial ship design contest? I know many of us who fumble through the forums all day have at least some idea of something new they think would be cool. For example- a design for that long awaited caldari/minmatar pirate ship we have yet to see. I have even already thought of a basic concept for it. But I want to see if people would actually like to be a part of such a thing.
TL;DR
I want to have a ship design contest, with a prize. Unofficial of course. Who would be interested? |

I am creative, I just suck at expressing it. I think in pictures but I can't draw, I think in concepts but there are no words. Translations are always... lacking.

I would try to judge it how I think how a person with two brains would thinks about it if you split both down the middle and cross-connected brain A right hemisphere with brain B left hemisphere and vice versa.

Wow guys! i went to bed and woke up today to see this! this actually excites me =)
so to flesh things out a bit, here is what the plan was:
originally, it was going to be a contest that would be a ship designing contest. Each person designs a ship, what race(s) it would be, what weapons systems- etc. The more info the better, but there would be a bare minimum of things like ship size, buffs, and slot layout. PG and CPU wouldnt be necessary unless you want to do the calculations of what would be OP and what wouldnt. Obviously though the more details, the better. I was going to have it open for an extended period of time, say several weeks, for people to submit their designs in any way they want- scan up a sketch, render a model, make a youtube video. And yes, this does include

In short- any media that you can scan up to an image hosting site or youtube will be fine with me. Obviously better designs might make you more prone to winning, but, that isnt inherently true. Eye-candy is nice, but something with mildly less eye-candy that has a really fleshed out role, fittings, and background would probably get further. That being said It would be up for the community to decide
the way I wanted to get this accomplished was with a poll of sorts- people would each cast one vote per person. The winner would receive a prize of like a PLEX or something. second place would be like 500mil isk, and third place would be like 300mil. There would be a bonus prize for anyone who could successfully fully model any of the top submissions (and if you really want to impress us, give it a skin so it looks detailed and pretty, too).
Everyone else's designs would be forever put up on display somewhere. Heck- if we do well enough, we might even get a dev to see how awesome we are, too ;D or maybe even one would enter something- WHICH WOULD BE AWESOME.
so if you guys think this is a good idea, spread the word. link it in local chats, alliance chats, popular chat channels, ANYWHERE where you think the word would be spread. In the meantime, I will start to sketch up plans for how things will go down, and some official rules. If anyone happens to know how to contact chribba and has some pull with him (because lets face it, right now, I'm a nobody)- let him know about the idea as well. I will obviously send him a message as well. If the feedback gets large enough, and we get tons of people submitting ideas, we could open up more categories to the contest- clothing designs, weapons/drones, new POS stuff- anything that the community gets psyched about. Keep in mind though I'm not eve rich so I can't afford 20 PLEXes if we open tons of designs, and I would need some help xD

A big part of this is going to be that you dont NEED to design a beautiful ship if you have the other stuff- the fitting, race, etc. I am also planning on allowing teams. |

I agree with this. I'd rather play in a game with wire frame rendering if it meant the developers were tweaking as much effective game play from their code. |
