Myself and a couple friends were thinking of going out into lowsec and hunting -5 and lower pirates to get some pvp experience w/o having to gank some hapless SOB. I was wondering how this gang sounded for the task. 1 NOSing, jamming, scrambeling, ew/heavy drone carrying heavily tanked dominix. A torpedo spamming raven and a snipping Apoc. Not that we'd be antipirates exactly. We just don't want to screw over "innocent" player to get some experience and play around with different tactics and generally explore areas we've not been.

A BS usually isn't the best tackler if you're hunting pirates in belts. Pirates often fly very fast ships, and you can't tackle anything if you can't get in range. A BS tackler is okay on a gate camp... but not for chasing people in belts.
Better bet would be to get one of you in a fast frig (even a stabber can handle it) or inty, tbh, for tackling.

Without finding another gang either gatecamping or running a large corp op, you'll be unlikely to find anything to match that in most places running around empire.
Most belt pirates will see you coming a mile off and run away (they pay MUCH more attention than their victims usually), and many gatecampers would use alts to see you coming.
All in all, I think with a force like that, you are unlikely to get many engagements without killing some poor hapless SOB.
Personally, I'd replace the sniping apoc with a megapulse geddon and give the raven and geddon the ECM drones. A dominix with EW drones is wasting its bonus.

Fly smaller and quicker ships. I highly doubt you'll find a decent fight when belting with 3 BS. A combination of cruisers for damage and frigs for tackling would be better in my opinion.

If you want to fight pirates, let them come to you. Too often in my youth I saw a juicy target, hit it when I thought it was ratting, and only encountered a dedicated trap ship - nossed, scrammed, webbed, and/or jammed as well. Then the gank squad entered, and *pop*, then *squish*, one more corpse of Sakura Nihil floating out there  .

you rarely see pirates belting in BS using reverse logic you should not either.
as mattzz has said, speed is the name of the game.
HACs work too

That gang seems way to small to be an Anti-Pirate gang. I would add at least another 12 Battleships and some HAC's to make it look convincing.
But seriously, if you want to hunt ppl, you need something fast flying fast locking to catch somebody, so a few frigs of whatever flavor. If you get 3 ppl, I would probably go for 1 Frig, 1 Cruiser, 1 BS (use T2 variants if appropriate).

Its realy quite simple to be honest. Don't use BS's to pirate hunt most of the time you'll be chasing things that will out run you or outgun you anyway so having smaller faster ships gives you both the ability to catch your target and also to get away from any incoming blobs.
As a suggestion if one of your gang has a covert opps find a system with a sniper in it and get you cov opps on him. Come in in cruisers with close range fittings, jump on him and he won't be able to do a thing realy and as he'll have no tank itl be a quick pop with decent loot.

jamming cruiser, ew cruiser and a tackling inty, perferably a stilleto to catch the stab *****s....if you have more people then a covert ops is also good, or you could have the jamming cruiser in a cloaked recon to catch snipers.
Cruisers means your fast, you can take on any snipe camp and a 3bs tanking gate camp.
