I was wondering... How come CCP hasn't adjusted the insurance policies for the Manticore... I know the base price for a Manticore is 3 mil, but where the hell can you find a sell order that cheap for a Manticore??? I've checked numerous regions in the different empires around eve and everywhere the average price is between 10 and 20mil ISK... Insurance will only cover 3mil and that's with the Platinum Insurance... How come insurance isn't adapted for the change in economy? Sure for most things, the cost of items and ships fluctuates greatly, but for ships like the Manticore, the cost still remains much more a constant than anything else??? Please, can someone explain? Cause currently, the ship is so not cost worthy for a PvP ship... I spend roughly 30 to 40 mil buying and outfitting it... Lose it during a fleet battle, and what am I left with? Nothing....

Because that method is easily exploitable. I'm your buddy...I sell you a ship worth 1 mil for 100 mil, you blow it up and we split the 99 mil profit.

Edited by: Skidd Chung on 09/06/2006 20:11:49 The prices you pay for the Manticore is driven by market forces. Prices go up and down depending on the demand of it. If a sudden patch screwed the Manticore, you'll probably pay less than 5 mil for it. Since the Manticore is very much in demand, the prices shoots up accodingly. Remember, people will pay as long as they feel it's worth it.
The insurance payout is dependant on the base minerals required to build the ship. The insurance company does not take into account the limited BPOs available or the current market prices of the item.
The final decision comes down to you, if you can't afford to lose it, don't fly it.
Regarding insurance adapting to economy. The insurance payout is fixed to control isk inflation. Please note that every insurance payout de-values the isk. If the payout was to follow market trends, the rate of inflation rise would be increased as well. And as you would know, inflation is just plain bad for the economy and consumer.
The producers of the Manticore will also profit tremendously if the insurance were to follow market trends. You'd be surprised that no one is going to sell Manticores if insurance adapts to market prices. Because for a fixed cost of 3 mil isk, the producer can just make a Manticore, insure it at platinum and self-destruct it to collect the market-controlled-insurance payout. Which is instant profit, rather than selling it and setting up trade orders etc.
Hence, the current system.

try every t2 ship in game, not jsut manti's. just the way it is. that's why flyinh t2 ships is expensive. no1 would care about paying 250mil for a hac if you could insure them fully. it's called market fluctuation. insurance only covers build cost plus a little more. market supply and demand price changes don't affect insurance however
