I have 2 accounts that can both fly T1 mining barge (retrievers at the moment).
I'm doing high sec mining. I can have both of them mining, or have one miner, one hauler.
My initial though is 2 miner is a win, since my hauling time is usually less than my mining time in my situation (especially with retriever's huge ore capacity). But considering that I can put some fleet mining booster to my hauler. The answer is not quite clear to me anymore.
So, 2 miners, or 1 miner + 1 hauler. Which one do you think is better?
Forgive me, if the answer is too obvious. I'm still learning this game.

Depends how lazy you are.
I have two accounts - a miner and an Orca booster...on paper I think I would yield more if I used two miners -- but if you enjoy running to station every 15 minutes, and also losing a bit of yield in the time it takes to do that -- more power to you. Myself, I'd rather stay in one spot and empty the Orca every 45 minutes or so.

I prefer 1 Miner / 1 Hauler. I am lazy.
But 2 Miners will yield you more Ore. |

If you after quick money to plex your 2 accounts, 2 retrievers are the fastest way.
If you are after long term goals and mining doesn't drive you awfully bored, train 2nd account to orca. In the future you'd like to add about 3 other miner accounts. 4 miners are the sweet spot for a solo player management without use of multiboxing software. More miners will not fit in 1 hisec belt and require more management.
Perfect orca is about +60% to mining yeild. Multiply that by the number of miners in your fleet and you'll forget what ISK deficiency is.
If you get an orca, don't use it to haul, because when it warps, you lose bonuses. In the long run consider training a freighter alt.
But hold on, you have only 2 accounts. There are many ways you can get to your goals. As you can see, serious mining requires serious approach. Nothing comes easy. |

I usually mine with two hulks (covetors), jetison the ore until 2 full loads of miasmos are ready and then switch one account to hauler mode, transport the ore back to station and then back to mining with two miners. |

Thanks for the detailed explanation. Yes, I'm looking for plexing these 2 mining accounts. Hopefully, I can still have some left to support other activities in game.
Orca gives 60% boost. It means, I need to at least have 2 miners to break even: 160% * 2 = 320% > (100% * 3). Is my understanding right?
I'm currently training for Exhumers. Orca will be my next step. |

Personally i would stay with the 2 retrievers. if were talking highsec. unless ofcouse your in a quiet system. Ganks will happen and risking a 25 mil retriever vs a 200 mil mackinaw means you have to make a good 175 mil before you break even. on a ship loss :) yes you make more isk pr hour in the mac but difference last time i mined were only around 2 mil pr hour. With the current mining barge fixes the covetor really comes out on top.
You can just orbit the Orca at 500 and drop everything directly into the fleet hangar, you will have to do this because with max orca boosts + new covetors changes you will basically be cycling your lasers every 90 seconds, this combined with 32km laser range in a maxxed covetor is a pretty serious benefit. |
