Hello all,
I am new to eve and I want to ask about skill learning. I know this game you can't learn all the skills possible. The guide said it would take 3 yrs to do that, and I need to go through all the best implanets and learning skills to reduce the time it takes.
However when I put it through Eve-Mon, I got this (All learning skills included)
1565 skills; Total time: 8239 days, 8 minutes, 13 seconds; Completion: 31/12/2028 11:06:43
Now with a Attribute average of 15, you take 6687 days, a little over 18 yrs to complete.
Are you guys KIDDING me or something? 3 yrs and 18 yrs is a big differance.
Now I do not want to learn everything, thats just insane even at 3 years. but is there a way to speed things up? I would like to feel I have completed the game before I had grandkids, if you guys don't mind. null

The same way you 'acomplish' anything in an MMORPG by playing the game. If you're looking for a 'finished the last boss' type game then MMORPGs arnt really what you're looking for.
I cant think of any game infact where one character could learn EVERY skill in said game.

Lots of ways to feel accomplishment in this game.
Skill Points is the least of your choices.

Yes, it takes about that long. But this is not WoW. Here's no "end game", no level cap. No classes, either.
Skills in EvE are more like professions in WoW. Would you really be that better off if you could have all of them at the same time in WoW?
If you want to play with Eve-Mon a bit more, check out how long it would take to train all skills to 4 (and prerequisites for other skills to 5). Also, calculate how long would it take to have the best trader possible (hint: he must be able to fly a fast, good armored/shielded trasport, freighter and have all in skills in trade).

Actually, using the Eve Character manager, you can get to level 1 of every single skill in 1009 days if you start off with Learning to level 5, then Cybernetics to level 4 and get level 4 implants, and then doing all the learning skills to level 5, and then the advanced ones to level 5.. however, there is a trick to the advanced skills...
now, the character i did the test with was an average one, and had some pretty crappy stats, but, with all the skills
still tho... 1008 days... and you have 90% of all the skills, i mean of course, you stick to your own racial skills, so Caldari all ships, and titan, cruiser, hac's etc...
i mean, with the other races stuff, you add probably about another 60 or 70 days to each thing, but otherwise...
3 years man.. and you'd have every single skill....
yuo have to take into account the implants and learning skills done first tho...

its definitely a paradigm shift,
personally I'm glad I started with a game like A Tale in the Desert, where its not nearly as impossible to "learn everything" its not the point there either. then trying others... one thing I did NOT like about WoW was how easy it is to "finish".
once you get used to the idea of skills being a tool, and an asset, rather than a goal to be completed, it changes things quite a bit too.

It's kind of like EVE's own way of having "classes" while giving the freedom to mix them any way you want. Like you can be a good combat pilot with a few months of industry or mining added in, or specialize in more than one tech 2 cruiser, or fight in BSs but also fly a freighter, or whatever. It'll take longer, depending on how much you want to max out each thing, but you can do it. What you can't do is be a specialist in everything. Even if EVE runs for 22 more years, they'll have added 500 new skills by then.

I can start to feel the differance, in wow you got the skill and level rush, but here there is no such thing. If you want missles you got to skip the drone training and such.
The flipside of this, is that it rather easy to get lost in the vast array of skills. If not for Eve-mon I think I would have being overwhelmed already.

to be honest i dont think you shold b able to learn everything but thats my opinion, in my opinion you should have to specialise more to bring more diversity, as it stands you can do pretty much everything - some people can just do it better then you. im not complining but im just thinkng as to why someone wants to "complete the game", wouldnt be worth playing MMO if you could do everything yourself

there has to be a balance between not being abel to learning everthing and spending half your life in a game seems that some balance need to be done giveing players faster training as new skills always seem to be added regually ------------------------------------ fix eves industrial sector!

Must be a problem with your Eve-Mon, there are only 312 skills in the game (I think), not 1565 ...

Its correct, 312 unquie skills(5 levels each)
I do respect the nature in which this game is built, I do hope Kali adds more Learning skills. ------------------- Sig removed, please stay away from extremely cute and cuddly sigs, email [email protected] if you have any questions |

1565 is not the number of skills, its the total of lvls for all skills
In fact, it should be 1560 as there is 312 skills with 5 lvls each (312 x 5 = 1560) -----

Incidentally if you want to go into 0.0 and not get turned to jam, either go in a covert ops or make friends with the residents... otherwise it's pretty much irrelevant what ship you go in you'll still end up the same way :)

This is a great skill game. The game runs on skills not money/items/ships.
You could be a 1 year old player in a battle cruiser with good skills. But if u dont have decent pvp skills u could be killed by a 3 month old frigate.
So its essential to specialise in skills and in a certain race. No point getting skills in other races. Leave it to later on when u can afford to waste time.
At the beggining u want to specialise into a certain race bonus and then a certain race skill like drones/missles/hybrid etc.
Ive only been playing for just over 2 months now. And im slowly getting the hang of the game. for the first month i didnt feel like i was taking anything in. Thats whats great its massive and its not reliant on one factor.
WoW is crap down with WoW and other online games

My lowest attribute is higher then that so I am sure its not going take me 18years to learn eveything. I believe the 3 year comment to learn all skills was back when the game started with less then 100 total skills. The skill set seems to have tripled if not quadrupled recently.

I agree that 15 average is not the highest, then lets say 50 average.
That is 2591 days, give or take about 7 odd years. Still very long. ------------------- Sig removed, please stay away from extremely cute and cuddly sigs, email [email protected] if you have any questions |

The key is specialization. One can specialize in one certain area, say covert ops for their starting race in a matter of months. The EVEMon was looking at all skills for all races and the vast majority of the SPs are tied up in capital class ships, so yeah if one tries to train up for titan lvl 5 for each race then they'll be training for years and go insane in the process.

You need to speclize. it will take you about 4 months to be a minning god, 6 months to pilot a Titan (another 2 to 3 months for weapons I reckon)
So if you aim in a year to mine like mad to buy your own titian, you better earn about 4 billion a month to buy it. (you know this suddenly does not sound so bad anymore)
Average attribs of 50 is impossible :) try 24 for all but charisma and you're at something realistic. You can't max mining in 4 months, not even close, and to have decent Titan skills you'll need more like 2 years.
As you play this game your perspective shifts a lot, which is a good thing IMO, and you start to realise that being able to use something isn't the same as being able to use something.

I am a newbie forgive SIR!!!.....
Looking at all things, my perspective has changed a lot already since leaving wow to play eve. (Only playing for 7 days)
I think its more of a point of interest that you take about 22 yrs to actually clear all the skills, and assuming CCP only add more learning skills and atrribute implants, you know you can't take less than 7 years. CCP has the longivity of this game planed allright. ------------------- Sig removed, please stay away from extremely cute and cuddly sigs, email [email protected] if you have any questions |

Technically with all +5 implants, the average, mean, is 25.08 per attribute.

Assuming that all skills are actually worth the trouble of actually training them to lvl 5,which the vast majority aren't,since the bonus they give can sometimes be as small as 2%,and have the drawback of being high ranked skills to boot,so they take a long time from lvl 4 to 5...
The only extremely high ranked skill that i'll bother taking to lvl 5 on the merits of the bonus alone,is the fighter skill(rank 12,currently in training),since at least it gives a 20% bonus for each lvl trained, and with the advanced drone interface also being released sooner or later,a carrier pilot having 13~14 fighters deployed, each doing that extra 20% damage from the fighter skill makes a large difference that your target will definately feel it...
Having said that,i kinda doubt there's actually enough skills to actually keep anyone motivated enough to still train them,in order to get a decisive advantage on anything that matters, past the 4th year of playing the game no matter what, since by then, the subscribers that have been playing that long, are well past the 60 million skill point mark, even over the 70 million mark in some cases, and well into the diminishing returns of their skill training, being pretty much forced to train whatever skills they have left from lvl 4 to lvl 5,even those that aren't really worth it in the first place...
