I have a Geforce 7900GT 256mb and while in games, certain parts seem really bright. For example, in counter-strike source I look at a wall and its extremely bright. Same with the flash light (yeah I know its supposed to be) but it like blinds what I'm looking at. Same with Rise of Legends, the little aura around my hero is too bright, but the rest of the games brightness is fine. Also in Starship Troopers, certain parts just looks stupidly bright!
Help me pls heh!

Just these bright places.
Question.) Would I need to lower the games gamma or the gfx cards gamma in its settings ?

Gamma by definition means "the brightness of the bright areas": its an exponential function, meaning that raising it raises the brightness of the bright areas more than anything else.
Thus, you can lower your gamma and raise your brightness (which is linear) to achieve an overall lowering of the brightness of the brightest areas while keeping overall brightness the same.

Do you have HDR - High Dynamic Range - turned on? That makes the bright areas super bright, like in real life/on film.

Not to derail, but how is 7900GT in performance? I'm getting a 7900GTX and I'm a bit curious since it is one hell of a jump from my Radeon 9550.

Sounds like HDR to me.

7900GTX will be a spiffy card.
Sounds like a mix of dodgy gamma and/or brightness settings to me. Considering there is only one HDR map for CSS that seems like the unlikely option. And, you wouldn't want to use the flashlight on Dust. -------------------------------------------

One small problem, the nvidia program wont let me change the gamma overlay colour, only the brightness + contrast.
