Ill have to say for me personally a coercer with 8 tractor beams is best. If u fit a mwd in mid and 4 cargo expanders in lows u have a ship that can collect 8 cans at a time while moving at 1,000mps and have a cargo capacity of 1,000.

Edited by: Barimen on 12/06/2006 11:14:06 Ive been meaning to ask this and now seems a good time.
How does them tractor beams work?
Do they tractor the whole thing into hold or just close enough for you to open them?
Blazing in 1000 m/s while trying to open and loot cans seems encumbersome at best.

Large load = itty with 2x tractor's Medium load = mega with 7x tracotr's small load = get it while killing in my domi with the tractor in the 6th highslot.

i tend to use an exequeror(4 tractors, 1700m3 cargo) for most missions or a prowler(2 tractors, 4000m3 cargo) for those that need the cargo capacity.
the speed of your ship can be an issue when using tractors, i find when using the prowler that even doing 330m/s any cans i am dragging to me seem to "bounce" in and out of range to be able to loot from them. -

The tractor will get the can to about 500 meters from your hull, at a speed of 500 m/s ... so, if you're flying faster than that, you'll leave cans behind you.
Personnaly, I use a Sigil with 5 nanofibers, a T2 10 MN AB and 2 tractor beams to collect my loots ...
3000m¦ of cargo hold (+5% per lvl), 850+ m/s (depends on the AB, the nanofibers and the speed skills), turns and aligns as fast as a frigate (faster than a Coercer, even).
Bookmark a pack of cans, fly to the middle of it, and drag the "bubble of cans" to you ... rinse and repeat, nice and easy

Nanosigil for HiSec and a Prowler for low/NulSec looting.
Both will have 2 tractor beams, or a tractore beam and a cloak if I have to do some sneaking around to get to the target system.
They're either speed rigged or heavily armored, depending on the danger involved. --*=*=*-- Megadon CCP wanted a well known artist and celebrity to test the new font so it's approval would be well known. They got Ray |

I use a Exequror with 4x Tractor Beams and 3x Nanos in the lows. Throw an AB on and anything else you fancy in the mids (MWD, signal boosters, cap power relays, cargo scanners, etc.). This gives a fair turn of speed and reasonable cargo capacity. I find this hoovers up L4 mission loot quite nicely.
Cheers, Arrs.

Exequror -------- 4 x tractor beam ~ AB for looting stuff close together MWD for getting those cans 50km away cargo scanner to see if its worth getting those cans 50km away cap recharger to keep her running a bit longer ~ 2 x expander 1 x nanofiber to make her a bit more agile and mitigate the expanders' speed hit

As i have a Alt I use a Dual Role loot collector/support ship, Armageddon 4 Tractor beams 4 medium remote armour reps 100mn AB 2 cap recharges and a range of diffrent mods in the lows to suit the mission, depnding on cargo size needed There's no such thing as madness, just diffrent degrees of normality.

i collect it all into one can with two tractors on my ferox while im running the mission, (one tractor on the can trailer, one brings new ones into range) gives my ferox a 27,850m3 cargo
if i cant get it all in the hold when i finish, i bookmark the can, finish the mission and come back in a prowler to pick up the one can,
the only problem with collecting cans with a tractor while in combat is that i tend to send a salvo at the wrong target far too often and have to watch as heavy missiles fly down the tractor beam to my can cans are not very strong.

After trying several ships I came to the conclusion that the Exequror makes one of the best looting ships. I get 1540m3 cargo space (gallente cruiser V) and I only use low-end cargo expanders. Add to that 4 beams, AB and MWD and you got an awesome looter. From my experience, that amount of cargo space is enough for maybe 98% of all missions.

Someone who does exactly what I do! :) I love my Ferox for this specific purpose. 5 heavy missile launchers, 2 tractor beams, and a MWD (for lvl3's, lvl4's I ditch the MWD and put more resist-type stuffs on and well, barely survive in most lvl4s ).
Incidentally, I also do the same on blowing up cans a lot.. often times its the one I'm hauling behind me as the "storage" can. Ever had that happen when you had some really nice loot in there? :) I lost a local hull cargo expander to that kind of idiocity once..

I use a Nanoed Exequror for the smaller missions (4 tractors of course). If there's a whole bunch of loot, I use a Nanoed Sigil, which can equip 2 tractors and can reach speeds over 700 m/s with a Tech 2 10mn AB.

Exact same story here. I use sensor boosters along with AB in midslots to make locking cans faster.

I second the exequror looter, And to those who get more than 1500 m3 of cargo I have to suggest to put Huge Secure can in so that total cargo space becomes about 2000 m3.

I'm in the nanofiber sigil camp. only a few missions I've found seem to have the can-density to make more than 2 tractors REALLY worthwhile.
some missions I put a tractor on my domi and loot as I go, like blockade, or missions with only a few targets.

I feel you. I once collected all my loot in one can and instead of the drone structure I shot my can with 15m worth of alloys in it.

IMHO i find that prowler is a best overall hauler. goes real fast up to 950 with ab and 2 nanos and as we all know all beams have speed of 500.
That means you cant drag a can while at full speed cause you gonna loose it when it goes far out of 20 km. most of the times i target 2 cans and drive to the third with a speed less then 350. That means that the cans will actualy come close and so you ll be able to loot it. how many times i have find cans all together in a radius of 20 ? not many times so still i believe indies do the work great so now if that indy is a t2 and has a +2 warp strenght that is a huge benefit for ppl doing missions in low seq
excuse my greek written english hope you get the meaning

Getting a lot of good replys here,i was mistaken that the soercer can lock 8 targets at once as i can only lock 6 with my skills but assumed that it go up to 8. What makes a good can collector is a good balance between speed/Manuvering/Tractor Modules/Cargo capacity Keep your posts comming in

Edited by: Nice View on 13/06/2006 11:37:12 I use one of 2 ships to loot.
1. Catalyst with 400m3 base cargo and 3 low slots it gets almost 620m3 with expander 1's and can target 7 cans
2. Exequror my main looter, with 4 tractor beams and a 10mn-T2 it is fast and 1500m3 does a nice job.
edit to make corrections

one other question (besides a destroyer that locks 8 targets )
The Coercer has only a base of 300m3 cargo even with four 27.44% local hull expanders you only get about 627m3 space were did you find expanders that get you to 1000m3?
the expanders alone each more than eveything combined (4*40mil each = target destroyer)

hmm, maybe we should also point out some opinions, not just post setups?
1) it is beyond stupid to use anything better than cargo expansion I 2) if you can freely pick any ship independent of race, then it's the gallente cruiser exequror. iirc the only cruiser with a cargo bonus, and with 4 hislots its twice as fast as an industrial 3) if you can't pick freely, then use the racial cruiser with the best ratio of cargo/hislots/speed (in that order of importance). industrials can be used if necessary, but are always a relatively bad choice because of the low number of hislots.

Edited by: Kazuo Ishiguro on 13/06/2006 15:00:32 I currently use a Cormorant with a 1mn MWD; 800m/s top speed, lots of tractors and over 500m^3 of space. I used to use a Kestrel with 2 tractors, MWDs & cap rechargers, but it doesn't have quite so much space.

meh. I use a probe with 2 tractors a couple of expanders, and even on those long waves of what seems like 50 cans or more, I'll drag one of the cans behind me 27,500km3!!!!!!!!!! and fill THAT up with everything on that level. bookmark it and come back with a hauler/indy. It may take me two runs to get all my goodies, but its faster. damn I love my bookmarks. :) ----------------------------------- F em all but 9 6 to carry my casket, 2 for roadguards and 1 to call cadence. |

High: 2x Tractor Med: AB, Sensor booster (to lock cans faster) Lows: Nanofibers
Works very well. Only bad thing is that you can only lock 2 targets.
On my other account (well this character) I use a Domi and have one tractor in a high slot.
