For my sins im a Caldari.
Can anyoe suggest a BS/BC ship & setup for mining in 0.0?
Im thinking that it needs to have
1. several turrets for mining,
2. a decent sized cargo (although I do have a hauler)
3. ability to hold of warp jammers - until I can warp out
4. drone abilities perhaps?
Caldari ship would be good, otherwise what other ships?

ive got a Covetor ... but I was thinking that its slow - poor defense if any.. its ok for Empire mining - where I may get jumped by some Rats.
But if im in 0.0 mining and another BS/BC warps in then the Covetor would have no chance at survival.

right, osprey is the BEST caldari mining ship.
osprey with miner 2 and 2 mining upgrades:
with lvl5 cruiser: 476.28
with lvl4 cruiser: 428.65
ferox with 5 miner 2 and 3 mining upgrades: 416.74
when you dont want to learn for, domi/mega/apoc and want to mine more, learn for mining barge.

what are the 476.28 units of??
also would you be comfortable mining in an osprey in 0.0 i.e. enough shields etc and speed to warp out.. obviously a osprey with mining turrets is not going to be able to attack another BC/BS.

This isnt very good english?

Might not be what you want but train up for Gallente BS (Mega) 
You can have 6 T2 lasers on it with 2 heavy's for example. You need a few CPU co-pro's. I though 2x T2.
If you happy with the lasers only then you have room for stabs, Cargo mods and what ever you like to put it.
If you just want to warp out and you have enough stabs, your on the save site with the specs as the ship is.
I love my mega for mining

so mining in 0.0 where another enemy player could warp in at any time - people recommend an Osprey or a mining barge?
Im just hoping/wondering that osprey or a retriever could handle get get away from another BC/BS?

yes, if you think retriever but i dont want to learn for that atm.
learn to fly a domi or apoc for solo mining.

Almost any ship that's not stabbed out will get killed if you get warped in on. I wouldn't use a barge not becuase of the belt pirates but becuase you have less than zero chance of avoiding any gate camps.
The osprey really would be alright in your situation since somebody warping into your system would have to act quickly and get to your area fast to scram you before your agile little cruiser happily warps away.
Read a ninja mining guide-most of your concerns are addressed.

i dont recommend it for solo mining, but fact is, the osprey is the best caldari mining ship.
what i recommend is a domi or apoc.
i use for group mining a megathron wit 7 miner2 and 4 mining upgrades and for solo mining a domi with a tank.
when you wait in 0.0 or low sec. for bad guys to warp in your belt. you make something wrong.

I agree with using an Osprey for mining...it is nimble enough to warp out quickly before someone can jam you.
However, most other options should work fine as long as you listen to the advice of the other posters and keep an eye on Local and your ship aligned with a warp out point at all times.
