I have no idTa how many times I have been in the help channel and seen this
Noob: Help me please.. Not Noob: Clear you cache Noob: How???
Even though I have cleared my own chace a few times Ia m still unsure of what does what..
SO if someone who knows all this, maybe someone from the DEV team or something could make the final "how to clear you cache, and what is what is the chache folder so yo can decide for yourself what to remove" thread.. I just think that would be REALLY helpful and also save alot of time in the help channel where you could just post the link and let people help themselves..
Good IdTa? I think so..

Yeah, that was pretty close.. And also quite helpful.. But what I was really looking for is a very specific list of what every directory is.. For example all the files and directories in the folder called Macho Net, what are all those?
I am now aware of which ones are safe to delete, but I wolud like to know what all the folders are so I can decide which ones to keep no matter if they are safe to delete or not..
"The how to clear you chace, and what to keep" part is taken care of..
Now it¦s just the complete guide to "What is what?" part left.. :)

Also, my log folder is 60mb in size now.. With filenames like: "#errors b3366 2005.05.16 13.38.42.txt"
What to do with those? Delete? Send them to support? What?

Why not a clear logs application, or such a feature on the logon screen. Would make it much more accessible to non-techies. And since such feature always would work correctly, less complains to, reducing the load of CCP personal.

A Cache Cleaner utility should be a standard issue app/routine provided WITH the game. CCP, please provide a cache cleaning GUI in a future release. :)

yeah i was very much aware of the existance of a 3rd party cache cleaner, but if cleaning cache is a solution the devs say to do to fix problems, it should be an integral part of EVE - say, from the login screen. a simple button that cleans the cache safely, and restarts the client upon completion...surely a trivial easy thing to implement.

Edited by: Baleorg on 28/12/2006 16:39:23 i like the program below my signature, does it quick and without trouble, comes with a "shiftwindow" feature to play "like fullscreen" but in window mode :-P

I'd go with that - but I think there ought to be two options; a clear cache that preserves the prefs.ini file and settings folder, and one that nukes everything.
Losing prefs and settings could be quite a pain. ---------------------------------------------- "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent." ---------------------------------------------- |

If you know of a good thread on cache cleaning, and you want it made sticky, email [email protected] with your reason and request. |
