A lot of you like to use the word coward to describe a players in EVE. I suggest looking up the definition of "projection".
Calling someone a coward, while typing anonymously on an internet forum is ridiculous. Engaging in pvp doesn't make you brave, it makes you a gamer.
So does everything else performed within said game.
Have a nice life, time to die.
Doomhiem, receive meh! Apparently an Indy alt is to take my place I've... seen things you people wouldn't believe...-á Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannh+ñuser Gate. All those... moments... will be lost in time, like -átears... in... rain. Time... to die... |

I am going to have to disagree with you on that.
Often times everyone forgets that even though its a video game, its still a social situation. The mothers and fathers in this game would hopefully not be happy with their 10-12 year olds playing Call of Duty (why let children that young play those games?) and having grown men cuss them and tell them they are going to come to their house and kill them and things of that nature. That's just a video game but its also real life.
Before Dust/EVE I never ran a microphone in gaming and would never allow anyone to talk to me due to people always talking about how big their penises are or how many hoes they get or how bad ass they are with said weapon or vehicle or ship...etc etc
It is entirely possible to be a coward in a video game. Its more built into some people...they don't want to lose. They can't tolerate losing. They can't tolerate that someone out there is maybe better or has outsmarted them or gotten a lucky break with them. That's why you hear the FPS crowd say as soon as someone kills them, they must have been hacking.
You say projection, as in a mental image viewed as reality and its not so...but people can be nice in video games, can be mean in video games, can be polite, rude, generous, stingy, selfish and any other emotion. People fall in love and get married on video games. People forge lifetime friendships on video games....all facts.
And you say people can't be cowards on video game? Sure they can. The proof is in the pudding. Its a social situation. Its life. It is what it is and people are notoriously famous as a collective society for being shriveled up little weenies in real life but big bad asses online.
Its a social degradation and abhorrent trend. If your life sucks, fix it. Go to college, get a better job, get some confidence, get a haircut, learn some social skills, learn another language....if you hate yourself, find ways to love yourself. Its not that hard.

Thank you, seriously. Your post is eloquent and well thought out.
But misses the mark in a way a water balloon misses destroying a city. The word coward thrown around here is misguided at best, referring to the eve-o forums.
What you are referring to is bullying, nevermind the redundant addition of cyber.
Coward, as a person who doesn't want to pvp, in the only semi-realistic space mmo is what I'm referring to,
I should of been more clear.
In the spirit of clarity, those that abuse others over a mic are bullies, and cowards.
In a game, acting within game mechanics, avoiding pvp....not so much.
Again, thanks for gracing my thread...your points are solid. |

Probably because 8 to 6 years later they can join the armed forces and do it for real. Totally understand where you're coming from though, an adolescence with hundreds of hours of violent daydreaming will probably generate unsympathetic, ungenerous and plainly boring adults.

I agree with Michael Epic, you can definitely be a coward in a video game just as in real life. For instance if I get in a fight with someone in real life, run away and bring back my two friends to help so that I don't lose the fight, that's cowardly but also strategic. The same is true for EvE, if I get in a 1v1 battle and run away only to come back with two friends it's very cowardly, but strategic as well. |

If i **** talk at all its usually to try and and get them pissed so they might do something stupid, nothing personal i dont actually think them a coward.
Also in online games people tend to lean towards what they made their character to be like. In eve its usually a power trip, being some badass pirate instead of a the IT guy who gets moaned at all day or the desk jockey that has an annoying boss. Unless its to the extreme you shouldnt take most people seriously.
And yes you can be a coward. Maybe coward is too extreme a word to use but it still applies. |

IZ is a huge coward and a ****** and actually should be banned again, but nobody gives a ****. Eventually, she'll do that all for herself anyway. She even has to make stupid threads and posts, because I got so much under her skin she can't take it. And nobody really cares about it, except her.
Also .... Hi IZ. I know you're reading this. You're too weak minded not to do it.

A coward is someone who has decided the worst will not occur. Cowardice is terrible to anticipate, to experience and to remember.
Jirus Yusef wrote:Yeah cause CoD is great training for being in the real military. And who would actually want to be in the real military.
FPS games were developed as training in the 80s and are just dandy for it. Whenever there's a war military recruitment spikes and always has.

A person who acts like a coward is a coward. Rationalization of bhaviour doesn't change the outcome and consequences of the behaviour. The internet doesn't change this. Assholes are Assholes, cowards are cowards.
