I have had all trouble since i got my ati 9700 pro board. It is fantastic in all games but the one i wanna play..........EVE
And everyone says it is this it is that.......
My system has been working solidly for that last two patches until this one..... now i can play hopefully 1 minute bore a total systemcrash.
And i have not changed one thing on the puter exept updatiing eve...... soo it is something that ccp does that makes the game stoooopid.
After it started crashing i have done all standrds stuff, reinstall empty evecashe try old drivers etc.....
WHY WHY does it have to be this way???????????????

IŠm not so sure about that. it will probably be like this game or worse, ALL online games have somekind of troubles. I just happen to like eve and wanna play that.
But i canŠt continue for so many more weeks if theese crashes donŠt come to and end.
As i said before when the game laggaed and there were lots of bugs it worked better for me?? and when they fix it it is worse then ever.........

AThe last weeks i have had the newest.
Before that i used 6 mont old ones.
Exactly wich version do i need?
And why the heck cant the graphicboard (ATI) manufacturer and ccp come to a solution to a known problem for so many people.
And beside that ccpstates that EVE fully supports ati radeon 9700 pro with the latest drivers....

Having the same problem myself. Game worked great with the new drivers till this last patch. Just wish there was some kind of work around. Since I am not going to revert my drivers for this game when my other games work fine with it. The problem lies with the patch and they need to fix it soon.

I have a 9700 Pro and my game runs fine. Most likely it isnt the 9700 Pro itself that is the problem, but rather it is a part of the problem, ie. other parts of your setup are causing your problem. Update all of your drivers, including your motherboard BIOS.
Taken from the May 29th 2003 Devchat at EveGate . <Muaddid> Q: When will sentry gun and station and similar construction pods be introduced on the market? <Hellmar> we have various player owned entities already implemented. Sentry guns, power/shield generators, field repair mini-stations, mobile refineries. We are still working out the last tidbits of how they can be over taken, what is the penalty of having a sentry gun kill a n00b etc. and we have been a bit busy with plugging the holes that people have found.I would say that you'd start to see these items on the market in about 2-3 weeks, very expensive to begin with |

Ah so its not just me getting this. I mean this is not a CTD, the whole PC locks up and you have to reboot. I currently spend more time rebooting than playing.
I get about 1 minute into the game before boom since the last patch.
Just tried catalyst 3.7 (latest) 3.4 = BOOM
I will try each driver and update. ________________________________________________ "One may smile, and smile, and be a villain" -- William Shakespeare

Hmm now tried
3.0, 3.1, 3.2, 3.6, 3.7
They all cause me to crash after about 5 minutes of play. The worst were 3.2 which I managed to type the word 'crashed' into the corp window before the whole screen went black.
3.4 were the drivers I was using quite happily before the friday patch so will stay with these for the time being.
Dont really want to go to v2.X drivers as they need DX8.1 and I need DX9 for other things.
Mother board is an ABIT NF7-S
Everything else works fine. Grrrr. ________________________________________________ "One may smile, and smile, and be a villain" -- William Shakespeare

Interesting. Just tried the following
Catalyst v3.4 +
Disabled all onboard motherboard sound Disabled sound hardware acceleration using dxdiag.
Appears much more stable with the ABIT NF7-S motherboard. Wonder if its sound rather than card related............ ________________________________________________ "One may smile, and smile, and be a villain" -- William Shakespeare

Spoke to soon.
Machine locks out randomly after 5-10 minutes. ________________________________________________ "One may smile, and smile, and be a villain" -- William Shakespeare

Story continues - my own personal thread.
Turn all sound of - reduce levels of music and effects to 0.
More stable. Perhaps its another sound related problem then... ________________________________________________ "One may smile, and smile, and be a villain" -- William Shakespeare

Well I just popped in an radeon 9800 pro on saturday since then have had exactly same problems you describe, every other single game I have works fine which sadly leads me to the conclusion that its ****ty eve and not ****ty drivers that are too blame.
Good job I'm gone on the fifth tbh... --

graphically intense, and adio intense applications running at the same time cause problems in most computors.
it can be haing the audio in the wrong slot on a board that causes irc conflicts,to audio drivers demanding too much cpu,to the 2 just interactiing poorly.
and eve has both things workin intensely CEO/Manufacturing and Research

PC Spec AMD 3000XP 512Mb RAM ABIT NF7-S RADEON 9700 PRO
If this PC is struggling with CPU load then there is definitely something wrong. As the soundcard is onboard and I've disabled it there should not be IRQ conflicts.
I've tried to negate any sound related problems - turned off motherboard inboard sound. I've also removed my USB plantronics headset so there is no sound full stop.
I've tried running logserver but unfortunately not had enough time to reproduce the error yet. Might be difficult as the screen locks up so cannot save the log (is there a way of auto saving?). ________________________________________________ "One may smile, and smile, and be a villain" -- William Shakespeare

I've got a similar problem however It's very very occasional for me. (1 every few days)
I would suggest you start by disabling fast writes ATI cards hate that. then turn off all AA/AF
aos running eve windowed increased stability for me.

Yes, It is strange that some has stable systems and some systems are very unstable. Perhaps it has to do with the mobo and such. I for one has had problems since thursday or something.. i have radeon 9500, Soundblaster live, Abit KG7 and AMD CPU.

You know. . . I've been dealing with ATI cards and drivers since '92, both professionally as a computer/network guy and as a windows user & gamer at home. ATI has always, ALWAYS been plagued with great hardware, but sh!tty drivers. It's their curse.
In a perfect world, Matrox or nVidia would write drivers for ATI cards. But in the meantime, get yourself something with a reputation for having solid drivers. ATI ain't it.
That is all.

Just my 2 cents, but I had similar problems like you guys have been describing. Was using an Enermax 431W PS. As soon as I replaced the power supply with an Antec PP-303X (300W) my eve lockups vanished.
Antec PP-303X (300W) Athlon XP 2100+ MSI KT4 Ultra Radeon 9700 PRO C-Media 6-channel sound 120GB IBM 120GXP 16G SCSI UW NTFS(Soft Raid 0, 2 x 4g Cheetah, 2 x 4g Baracudda) Lite-On 16x DVD Norcent 40x24x40 CDRW
My brother had similar problems. What he ended up doing to fix the problems was to increase the AGP voltage a notch or two and the lockups vanished. Some boards tend to sag on AGP voltage.

Hmm. Upped the AGP voltage from 1.5V to 1.6V and changed audio=0 setting in pref.ini
I got 15 seconds into the game - i last crashed next to a gate. So I jumped and crashed when I jumped.
Thing is a) I could go out and buy another PU, but why. Mine works fine for everything else b) It could be the card and I could go and get that, but once again its cost. c) I could try v2.5 of catalyst drivers, but they are buggy unfortunately and I cannot get my DVI connection to work.
The thing that frustrates me the most is not being able to track this down. After Fridays patch I was running 2 accounts with no problem at all. I made zero changes to the PC, but after sundays DT, I just cannot get the game to be stable. It would be alright with a CTD, but as the whole game locks up, it takes ages to reboot........ ________________________________________________ "One may smile, and smile, and be a villain" -- William Shakespeare

OK update.
Increased memory to 1Gb. No improvement
Upgrade Power Supply from 330W to 550W. No improvement.
Now the problem is a joke. Reinstall the game - Press ESC to change into window mode = Machine lockup - Press Char info on any new character = Machine lockup - Jump through a gate = Machine lockup

1. A 550W PU can be worse then a 300W one... 2. You have not told what OS you are running....if you are running Win 9x or me then change to a W2k or xp OS. 3. Check the running tempature inside your PC chassis and that of the CPU. 4. If running w2k or xp...reinstall....install directX 9 then the videocard drivers.
-Win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat!!!!! |
