Edited by: Mark3939 on 16/06/2006 10:03:55 I everyone.
Ive read a few threads about fleet combat, people usually complaining about everyone going for the same person and i got thinking, A way to stop gank fiests would to have a limit on how many players that can lock you depending on what sec space your in so if ur in .4 sec space maybe 2 or 3 other people can lock you at one time (this shouldn't apply to gang, corp and alliance members). And in .0 sec a max of maybe 5 people locking onto you this would make it harder for gate campers to kill you as quickly when u enter low sec space and make fleet combat more interesting instead of everyone going for the same person.

I can think of no reason why it should work this way. Additionally, I can think of many reasons why it would severely destroy fleet combat, because it would degenerate to a battle of who can bring the most of the biggest ships. Frigates would be worthless.

Solution: Bring a bunch of alts, and have them lock everyone in your gang and each other.

Edited by: mark39 on 16/06/2006 10:32:08 ok maybe locking thing isnt that great but having a maxiumum of weapons active on u from different ship so and it could be done by what type of ship so in .4 sec only 2 enemy bs's can shooting you, but maybe 4 cruisers or 6 frigs with no limit on how many weapons active from a ship, also sheild transfers etc wouldnt could as active weapons. then frigs and cruisers would still be viable.
hehe srry posted with a alt.

Again, why would this not just completely nerf frigates? Encrypted Client Side Bookmarks! Raise YOUR voice to CCP. |

Although I agree it would be nice to get people to not target and shoot one and the same target, the solution you propose would be too artificial. There has to be at least some reasoning and background.

You have provided no concept that this would be true under your idea as proposed, and I'm yet to train Telepath Lvl 1.
The idea still fails in that a fleet battle would ultimately be decided by who brings the greatest quantity of battleships to the game, and not how they use them since all you're trying to do now is lock up the largest number of ships to a target - screw webbers, scramblers and everything else a support ship can provide, it's now all about guns.
That sounds stupidly unfun to me.
The unfortunate truth is that fleet battles are as they are because there's no line of sight firing in EVE. You can hit any ship from anywhere, irrespective of intervening targets. Encrypted Client Side Bookmarks! Raise YOUR voice to CCP. |

electronic disruption from structures and other ships could be the reason and would fit in since there is less people in structures in lowsec then empire space :P

James, the concept could be that, as Mark stated, electronic disruption (or whatever effect from weapons fire) causes targeting systems to get inaccurate when it reaches certain levels. It could be bases on weapon size (Large weapon - big disruption, small weapon - little disruption) and weapon number. But I'd say if at all, it should be a constant growing penalty (with a cap) instead of a hard limit (x guns and no more). I could but won't present a concept, because it's Mark's thread and there are people who don't like the whole idea.

I posted a (somewhat more thoroughly thought out) suggestion along these lines a few months ago.
I agree something would be nice, I'm not sure this is the solution though.
