I have spent the last month doing level 4 missions much to the pain of my wallet. The rewards that I have gotten have not even bugun to cover the cost of ships, mods and ammo.
What the heck am I doing wrong? I have a level 4 quality 15 agent in Lustrevik and have built up a fairly sizeable amount of LPs. I have yet to pick up a decent named item from a kill. Every offer from the agent would either cost me money or, at best, allow me to break even given what I have to pay the agent.
Is it because I am doing the missions in Lustrevik, a fairly high-sec system?

Ha ha good 1.. Seriously though, you might consider moving to a higher quality agent. lvl 20 perhaps and in a low sec rating. those types of agents give far more lp than high sec. also train some skill books that give more lp.Finally u will find that u get a lot more faction ships appearing in low sec space than high sec and there the ones that drop the valueable loot. And also dont die

I have lost two battleships doing missions. Both due to the game locking up. They were fully insured but the T2 mods were not. The ridiculous amounts of T2 ammo that I expend is also a little pricey.
Thanks for the info. I will try to find a higher quailty agent in a lower-sec system.

You shouldnt need T2 ammo on a BS.
I ussually use T2 heavy missiles when I run them on my Ferox but I still make lots of money.
You should be able to run them with T1 ammo and essentially never lose a ship. If your PC keeps locking up thats your real problem and no advice in the forum is going to fix it.

Huh? Level 4s rake in the cash for me. Only once lost a battleship and that was because I screwed up really.
Anyway, you don't need to use T2 ammo on level 4s, it's basically a waste of isk. Fusion L, Phased Plasma L, Titanium Sabot L and occasionally Proton L are all that you need. Generally the loot is crap, but if you reprocess everything you don't want you get a lot of minerals you can build a battleship out of for resale. At some point the LPs will start earning you lots of isk too.

I know this feeling. I was doing level 4 Intercept the Saboteurs fighting the minnies. I was on the last encounter, all cruisers dead and only 4 or 5 frigs left to deal with. Then the game just.....stops. Completely. Buh-bye Gist xl booster. 10 more days for the covetor then I can start building a new ship _________________________

... and if he locks up he's going to regret it even more.
For missions I just wouldn't use T2 ammo.
Oh and the number of Minmatar Level 4 Quality 20 kill mission agents is appaling. I believe there may be less than 6 and that's starting the count from level 18. --

I fly a Cerb for level 4's and have lost my connection loads of times during a mission, ship was always in a safe spot when I logged on.
Anyway, back to topic...don't use T2 ammo and dont do anything stupid and you will make loads of cash doing level 4's. I've had a 2 run CNR blueprint plus numerous +4 implants from storyine missions. I've made a lot from selling the large guns that drop as well as the odd named itemor two.
I do Caldari missions but it shouldn't make any difference where you are.

Edited by: Shoes4 on 18/06/2006 03:50:37 I don't know what race you fly, but no matter what it is, it is worth it to train up caldari battleships and get a raven. They are the king of level 4 missions. A raven doesn't have to worry about optimal range or falloff or any of that. If you can lock a target, you can hit it in a raven. The ability to fit a huge tank and choose your damage type really helps out too.
The setup I use is as follows:
Highs: 6x Arbalest Cruise Missile Launchers (These have the best fitting requirements) 1x Heavy NOS 1x Small Tractor Beam (Saves you time picking up loot)
Mids: 1x Tech II X-Large Shield Booster (Combined with a shield boost amplifier, this boosts for 780 hitpoints per cycle) 4x mission specific shield hardeners (If I am fighting serpentis, I fit two kinetic and two thermal, if I am fighting drones, I fit a thermal, EM, and two invulnerability fields...) 1x Shield Boost Amplifier
Lows: 1x Warp Core Stabilizer (Some frigates will warp scramble, which is how I lost two battleships. Since putting this on, I haven't lost any, and can warp out at will to take a breather if things get hairy.) 1x BCU (better rate of fire and damage from missiles) 3x PDS (for extra cap, cap recharge, shield, shield recharge, and grid)
Also, you should get drones to five and drone interfacing to two or three. I usually carry five light drones for frigates, and then five mediums for everything else. Use tech II equipment or best named where you can when fitting.
In addition, if you are doing security missions, you should look into military connections and political connections for increased loyalty point payout. I make about 8-10 million per mission (including bounties and loot), and from 3k-10k loyalty points. |

You know i can recall when level 3 was the highest mission. And these level 3s werent even as hard as alot of the present level 3s. And what i wanted more then anything was just the chance to beat up something harder then a cruiser without having to run to 0.0 Basically outside of 0.0 there wasnt a point to a battleship other then to mow down level 3s without risk. All I wanted was a mission for a battleship that would make me go back to the drawing board and reevaluate my skills and equipment.
Maybe they are a waste of time for some people because of equipment however their existance still serves a function. It gives you something to strive for as far as efficiency. Its certainly a better PvE game with them in play.
As far as will they make you the most isk in the shortest time... ehh actually eves pretty boring if you just focus on how much isk you made. Dont get me wrong isk making is important when you have a use for it. But without level 4s and without pvping what would you do with it?
The thing about level 4s is they do improve for you the better gear you get (I dont fly a raven so f' em if that isnt true for a raven =). So that gives isk getting meaning. If it was only level 3s why would I care about how much isk they got me since basically every battleship pimped out for level 3s does them "fast".
And thats how it was before level 4s imo.
