ive never done it never will. but i see more and more of it every day! a few days a go in .3 system an indy was afk mining with a thorax with 10 heavy drones deployed killing the weak frigate pirates at the spawn point. when i am in high sec space and there are 9 indies all afk mining its so stupid! most are not mining anymore they need to fill up thier 6000+ cargo hold. If CCP put in mining turret hrd pts it would help the game tremedoulsy, dont put em on indies at all! also bships should not be just used for mining.Belts keep getting laggy due to 100+ secure cargo containers! I know we wanted to stop ore theving but this is crazy! its too easy to succed in this game now i think if a ship is mining and the lasers shut off for more then a set ammount of time we should be albe to KOS! this means the ship is praticly dereilict. I dont mean to say that we can pod em in high sec space just to screw over the cheap afk miners. I have an alt that i use a kesteal(4 turret cal frig) and torps to blow away these guys, i have tried crusie missiles at longer ranges and i have been able to dock a few times  others i got wasted . Rise up and kill the AFKERS

Just ram into em. I love pushing 3-4 Indy's 30-40 km away from a belt. When i return 2 hours later, they still havent figured out they arent mineing anymore.

I really don't understand what is wrong with AFK minning in High Security space. Minning is boring but a necessary task in Eve. I wll mine while doing other chores around the house cause I am not needing to be active in the game outside of making sure my cargo hold is full and watching for pirates. But to sit for hours on end listening to the mining lasers do thier thing gets monotonous(sp?) so I do other things so I have time to sit at my desk later and kill pirates or what have you, or navagate 30 plus jumps.
I do think that it's a bad idea to be able to anchor secure cans for days on end in a belt though. There should be a time limit when the anchor degrades and the can's either disapear or the structure is so beating by the elements of space the blow up, even if anchored. Just my 2 isk on this.

What is wrong with afk mining? If one is so stupid that hi watches when computer (i mean the ships computer) mines he must be a stupid son of a *****...
it really can be compared with reading in train or bus... when someone is doing all the work for you you really CAN do something else....

People like this prey on noobs and soft targets in High Sec space cause they can manipulate the laws of Eve to further thier criminal activity, and they know they would be dead meat in 0.0 space.
Please notice I do not call these guys Pirates as it would be to honorable a title to give them.

Actully..I normal case in 0.4 and 0.3 systems
and I dont hit noobs
but I have no problem with hitting soft targets
you can insult me all you want
I only care about 3 things
isk.
my people staying free
and exercising that freedom
now if I see some amarr or other in a bestoer..Ill make a way to attack them
and its you calling me a pirate..

Mining is NOT a necessity in this game. I myself has only mined twice (for my tutorial agent) and never again. I'll get all the minerals I need from recycling loot!

edit :oh and as a guy above, i don't understand what exactly is the problem with afk miners ? is there an unique good way to play this game ? and i guess the good way is your way so ... I'm not afk miner since i never mine anything, but i've got np with afk thorax who blow up spawn in belt, i just go to the next.

If what you say is true, that your are in .4 and below and a person is AFK mining, then I must agree and say they run thier risk of being destroyed. I specifically meant high sec systems .9 or 1.0, of which many do mine in.
And you say persons mine in .4 or below space in an Indy???? That would be suicide.

I make the best cash from selling cargo expanders
and afk miners MUST have big cargo holds if they hang out all day (and if not..my stuf is cheap so no real loss)

I was out looking for Amarr scumm...went to over 41 systems...all I seen were Caldari, Gallente, and a few Minmatars. Was getting real upset with this when I was going through a .9 and low and behold an AMARR scumm shows up in local. So the hunt was on. Belt after Belt. I found him. I started this day expecting to die, at least loss of ship. So .9 I can mess him up some...I targeted him let loose with two missles. Good hits and I lost target as the cops started jamming me and trying to kill me. Cops cant hit somthing doing 594m/s I managed to warp to a moon for shield recharge and allow for "aggrisive' acts to wear off. I did not hear a word from him or any of the other miners at the belt.

I really dont know what part of AFK ining rubs your sensitive areas raw but know that its really just a way of maximizing your productivity when you have to work for a living and cant play all day like many of you OCD players. AFK mining really doesnt eat up roids that quick. Hell in a Thorax with 5 good lasers and 8 Harvies I chew some rock. AFK-ing in a .4 is really not possible...too many NPC rats attacking and if you lose your **** in a .4 then its your bad.

Hehe AFK mining...
When I mine, I mine. As I've upgraded my ship and drilling beams, my AFK time had decreased. I no longer use my mining drones, because the hold of my Thorax (with all expanders) fills up too fast! I've gotten to the point where I alternate beam startup so I have the time to move the ores to the can nearby before my hold is full.
Now if only I could research a way to convert the drone space into usable cargo space.....
