I have come to the conclusion that the point of playing Eve has escaped me. Being a manufacture I rely on megacyte to build ships with all the bp's I have saved up for. However, there is so little that I cannot turn a profit making ships anymore.
It seems a select favored few have access to all the resources. Is that good for the game? I think not. Even with insurance on ships, it is becoming tough to replace them for us small manufactures.
The mega corps that are hoarding resources now control the market. Is this good for Eve? Again, I think not. A lot of smaller corps are losing interst and ppl are quiting the game. It boils down to this: This is a game, not real life. I dont want to play a game and be poor.
Each day it is becoming less and less fun when I login. I considered myself a die-hard Eve fan. But, I see things will only get worse. There is now such a gap in ppl that the small guy is not having fun.
Tech II will only make this worse IMO. As will station building. The large groups will have them and the rest will not. Same with all the tech II ships and mods.
I am willing to have more patience with the game and I will wait for my subscribtion to renew and give it a month. If things arent better and more ballanced I will have no choice but to follow all my corp mates into the soft goodnight.
Please don't flame me. I want to make a constructive post on how me and my freinds are feeling about Eve. I know there have to be many ppl that feel this way. Hope to see some good posts with ideas and why we need to stay in Eve. |

Treat megacyte like gold. The price will go up and down.
You may have to pay a lot for it. In our world, Gold has varied and risen by as much as 800 times on occasion.
Just travel around and put in good buy order for megacyte. Thats what I do.

"There is now such a gap in ppl that the small guy is not having fun."
Speak for yourself.
I kinda like the megacyte shortage - maybe my corp doesn't earn as much as before but it's more challanging and when we find a nice roid with 1000+ in we get much more money for it than before :)
And ship prices NEED to rise, the deflation is so big it's not even funny anymore.

please stop your whining. instead of saying: blablabl it is impossible for us to turn profit etc. Try this: How are we supposed to get mega?
Well here are your answers: 1. Buy them on trade channel for 10k a piece. 2. Do 0 sec space missions and do 20 jumps to deliver the megacyte back to base. 3. Make a deal with an alliance 4. Hunt 30k pirates and refine the loot (6 hours of hunting and looting gave me 700 megacyte)
we are a very small corp but we have plenty of megacyte and zydrine and all other items required.
So instead of whining on the boards try to figure out a way to make it possible.
good luck

Edited by: Zodiac Laserstorm on 27/09/2003 09:51:25 If you think small corps are being shafted because they are small, what about me? I'm a freelancer!!
Thing is: I highly doubt it can go bad if some people are to scale while others are small. What does a small corp have a big one does not? Think a sec.
Well, I don't know from EVE, I used to play EQ (yeah, go on, flame me :P) and there where the uber guilds that had it all: constand members, great hunts, money for the rarest of items and so forth. Did that stop my 10 guys and gals guild from having fun?
Surprise: NO. We still played our game, indeed, the big guilds where so big they never even influenced our gameplay. They do theirs and we do ours.
Yepp, small guilds are somewhat limited. But then again, these kind of games are what you make of it. You can bemoan that you're a small guild, that you can not earn as much as others...
Or be happy that you know each member, count some or most of them as your friends and so on. I doubt a TTi miner knows every TTi member. He has most likely the ISK and support to do allmost anything... but does he have the tight knit feeling of a small corp that just mastered a great mining session out in dangerous space? Is it still something special to him?
I guess it is, in their own way.
But I would rather go for the small units, in ore and members. You don't need to be the best, riches, fastest in everthing to have fun after all.

When did you start this game
You know, some people have worked their asses of since launch. That is why they controle what they do.
But hey.. Maybe we should have a rollback once a month or so. So people would get an even start no matter when they started to play this game * -"You know, we play the "good guys" right? Did it ever occur to you Uber Miner, that maybe it was never intended for so many builders to exist?
In an economy some will survive others will perish. The big corporations with the big ISK backing can afford the Megacyte and make ships. As smaller builders perish because the market is infalted on ships and they sell for such small profit that the small ones can no longer survive they can increase the price on ships.
It's economy in a nutshell. Some survive, some don't. A small corp will never, ever, have the potential a big corp has, and that is as it should be.
Bug as Zodiac said, small well knit groups can make a difference, why not switch to deepspace minnig and get megacyte for the big corps?
Or become a pro rat farmer, earn ISK and loot and sell, or run agent missions, or hell, do like Miso and run arond playing covert op.
Big is, as the box says, better.

I agree with this post myself.
My corp has been killed of by bug, after bug, after bug, it is now to hard to do anything to get ahead and we now suffer for it.
In one night trying to mine bistot in a 15 jump run we lost about 4 ships of one being a BS, his second to a bug, with his leaving several others gave up as well.
Its not the pricing or the rareity its the bugs that make it nigh impossible to mine bistot.

So, all logic says: High demand and low supply of mega. -> Prices on mega rises. -> Ship builders have to up their prices on ships.
Not that hard, huh?

All very valid points .... but the predicament players like uber_miner find themselves in isn't good for the game in general. Yes, the alliances made themselves very powerful by fair means, but if your average player can't get a toehold in the game then he will leave. And , without a strong playerbase an MMROPG will fold . That's what is at stake here. Don't respond with "EVE is like real life ...." , it's a game FFS. If it doesn't bring fun and enjoyment to the majority of players it simply won't succeed.

Edited by: Aribeth on 27/09/2003 12:59:45 Yes roids like bistot are getting harder to find but they are out there and it's still worth more to mine Bistot and travel 10 jumps than to mine veld next to you home base.
One of the problems as was mentioned earlier is that the corps who mine there own Megacyte are not factoring in higher prices to thier ships because all it cost them to get was a little time. Because of this they don't raise the prices on their ships (so they loose potential isk) and those who have to buy it find that they can't purchase the materials as cheaply as the larger corps.
So to me it's a bit on both sides. On one side larger corps could be making more but if they did prices would rise and smaller corps would also start getting more profit. It would help everyone but it would also make the richer richer.

Once CCP fix the baby roid problem (and this has been going on for a bit) it should mean that the miner simulator works again.
Thing is with the current setup there are loads of people who have never even SEEN Ark or Spod. In my mind that's a major screwup with the basic operation of the game.
In Fountain it's nearly all baby roids now so even the Alliance aren't getting all the mega like people think. -------------------------------------------

From my experience it's not particularly difficult operation to get a bist mining operation going. Sure, you've got to haul a long way, but any corp can afford indies.
It's one of the rarest ores in the game, I wouldn't expect it to be easy to get hold of. A bit of organisation is all it takes.

Desperate times ask for desperate measures. Before the latest respawn of Bistot, my corp decided to mine the last unclaimed bistot belts in our remote area, 13 jumps away from the nearest station. And yes, I made roundtrip gate bookmarks to make the hauling more efficient. The effort was well worth it, and we're still fat and happy on megacyte because of it, although we're always looking for more. Put in the effort, and reap the benefits.

There is other side to this,i'm freelancer and i got rich becouse of the bistot. regarding us v bigcorps it's a price we have to accept if we want to be indipendent but to not fall far behinde them I had an idea about setting up a buisnees club for freelancers and small corps which i have posted it in under corpoartions forums ,to organise our efforts . I believe it would be more fun to have some strategy than just doing the basic things everybody else does .

No megacyte -> its much harder to replace battleships. At this moment there are simply too many battleships around. That is because the universe was not stable yet. It still isn't and i guess we are at the other extreme now where there is not enough :).
Anyway, with the megacyte shortage i see a lot more people going back to cruisers when they lose their bship. This should make it a lot more interesting now :)

Will you all please take a second to consider what the orgional poster is saying.
This is a game, games are supposed to be fun. In his chosen in-game profession he is finding it nigh on impossible to compete therefore the game is no longer fun for him. This is not limited to the origional poster but has become the bane of EVE, at this point I will point out that my corp has an excellent bistot mining unit and that we have access to mega, but just because certain people and corps can get by does not mean that the vast majority of the player base is having a good time.
I strongly urged a change to the factory system when we had factory campers and CCP responded in the best interest of the player base but now we have the same issue all over again but with a different reason, mega is becoming so rare that individuals are being put off the game.
CCP always stated that freelancers would have a role in EVE but to tell the truth this does not seem to be the case unless you wish to build frigates as the inflated mega prices are killing the freelance cruiser and battleship manufacturor.
But hey lets all ignore this and rejoice in the glory of our own corps while everyone else gets more and more frustrated cause we're all uber and they are just small time wasters who should shut up or quit the game.
If we want our server population to grow then we need everyone to feel a sense of accomplishment, big corps should win on the volume they can produce over the little guy but no you want it all you want to destroy his business and with it the server population, congratulations and good luck switch the lights off when you leave.

"Some will survive, some will perish" is all fine and dandy theoretically, but in a game "perish" = "leave". If you look at the real economy, only 5% of the population is on top. Does that mean only 5% of the people we have online should be able to enjoy the game?

Adapt and survive. The things that go on in eve are a similation of something that occurs in nature, natural selection.
I suspect that when titans and player owned space stations are introduced to the game that megacyte will once again be more available.

Uh, yeah it does mean that. There are many games where players can interact with each other without being able to destroy or hinder another player. Such games or servers are referred to non-PvP. PvP means Player versus Player, this is where a player is free to attack or hinder another player at will.
In Asheron's Call, they had 1 of the 8 servers set up strictly for PvP, only they called it PK (Player Killer). Furthermore, on the non-PvP servers, you could go PK by doing a quest that made you a PK. And then, only a PK could attack a PK, but nobody else, on a non-PK server. You could go non-PK by going to an alter and activating it or some such thing. It was a successful way to have both PvP & non-PvP on the same server without the two different styles of gameplay interfering with each other.

Ezuriah,
By your reasoning, then, EVERY Internet-based multiplayer game is a pvp game. This is not the case. "Pvp" actually means players directly attacking and destroying others. Maybe not in the literal sense, but definitely in its colloquial usage.

I have to laugh at those that argue this is supposed to be a PvP game. Its not, and never will be: 1) Servers simply cannot handle the infomation overload when more than 8-10 ships are in the same system, trying to battle, using drones/ sensors inhibitors etc. 2) Camping at a gate isnt PvP, its ambush of the most childish kind just to grief. Pirates arguing that its the only way to be a pirate, but running at the first sign of force "cos we aint stupid" isnt PvP either. In those circumstances, your the carebear. 3) Loading the Jump-In spots with drones etc.. is just childish exploitation too. Another cheap exploit from cheap players. Doesnt make you better at combat, just means you are more atuned to exploiting loopholes in the system.
And as for Cao Cao and his totally uncalled personal flame attack in this thread? Shame on you, I have thought you better than that. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> The Inquisition Long live the Inquisition Long live the Emperor Long live Amarr!

Even this is slowly changing... Even corps in the "profitable" regions are starting to have trouble with megacyte supply. Mining megacyte requires a large mining op - To do it efficiently you need 2-3 haulers per battleship that's mining due to the number of jumps that have to be travelled.
Look at it this way - Consider yourselves lucky that megacyte prices have only doubled, given the fact that the effort required to mine it has more than doubled.
I hear a rumor that deep core mining is coming in 2 weeks, and I think LekJart is planning a major roid redistribution/respawn code change to coincide with DCM being implemented. So if we're lucky, we'll only have to deal with this problem for 2 more weeks or so. (If we're lucky we'll get mobile refineries at the same time. Even if the spawn code isn't fixed, mobrefs will give us a 1-2 month reprieve from the current mess.) ------------ Ezra Cornell pe0n, Xanadu Corporation |

THen you're kidding yourself. You're Amarrian. I'm Minmatar. According to the backstory, we should not get along because of the history between our races. In order to resolve that, there has to be a PvP element.
Even if it meant we couldn't shoot each other, Minmatar would be trying to outdo Amarr in some form of contest that would pit Player vs Player.
However, as I just finished explaining in another thread, if the playerbase cannot move beyond 'not so niceties' of the most simplistic version of Player vs Player, cannot move past the most easily recovered version of Player vs Player, then the outlook is extremely bleak for Eve.
I mean its like you want corporations to oblige each other like its sex or something. Pffft I would rather **** my enemy.- Rohann

Even though this is not exactly the original topic, PvP. EVE is definitely PVP in more ways than just blowing the **** out of each other with rockets and stuff. The whole Corp vs. Corp vs. Indy vs. Pirate vs. Rogue Mercenary thing is PvP. If one corp*****blocks another, then it is an interaction of players vs players, no?
To the guy who quoted EQ'isms: LDoN. LOL. How's that for carebearing up the whole damn game so all the Brady's can get their fair share? Once upon a time, that game was fun too, but more and more non-player-interaction has been added over the years that now it is time for us to find something else to spend our time on.
I hope it's EVE. :)

Megacyte is available in the game. It costs roughly twice as much as it used to, but that is not a high level increase in comparison to the small quantities used. For example think of all the corporations or individuals who buy Tritanium for 2 ISK, same increase in cost.
Bistot asteroids are also available. Some areas might seem to be lacking in large quantities, but this would be because it has been mined out. From explanations and observations, the ORE deposits seem to shift around the Universe. This can easily be seen by the many huge size Veldspar and Scordite asteroids. It would seem only logical if you wish to find Bistot, prepare to pack your bags and go find it or mine the heck out of these giant asteroids. Profit from mining and selling to NPCÆs can then purchase all of the minerals you need for your ventures.

That's exactly why, Cops alliances like CFS are good for the game, allowing everyone with a clean nose to come in and out, mine whatever they want.
The only thing is that all this publicity around them will probably bring a lot of ppl on that region, and prolly a lot of "idiots" who can't have fun if they don't ruin yours.
