I'm really bad at math, but I think for a 1kg depleted uranium round to deliver roughly equivalent kinetic momentum to shields as a bumpageddon travelling at Mach 6.5 (not entirely relevant for spacetravel I realize).. the projectile would have to be travelling at something like 800 times the speed of light.
I might have missed something somewhere, because that simply doesn't sound right.
Of course, if projectile cannons actually launched volkswagons, specifically the VolksWagen Golf GTi MK1 with a mass of 906kg, they would only fire it at a high percentage of light speed to match.

For balance. Realism < Balance. No matter how much it bugs the space-nerd in me.
Besides, can you imagine playing a game with Newtonian physics? You'd take forever to plan out a manuever, 'cause if you missed you'd have to spend just as much time decelerating as you did accelerating........and with some of us speed demons....
Yeah. I'd prefer not to keep my shaver next to the computer.

Yes, space air. There is an abundance of proof of its existance. Ships decelerating when their ABs shut down is simply one aspect of it. That ships have top speed that isn't a sizeable fraction of lightspeed (when out of warp) is another.
For all of their advanced technology, ships not warping in EVE *crawl* at maddeningly slow speeds. Friction from space air is the likeliest explanation.

You could also assume that the Eve "universe" is rather a WAY older not yet as expanded universe and thus has a higher density of particles in the "empty space" (wich is not as empty as you would think). ----------------------------------------

Funny how people will come up with great theories and "this is how it works IRL"...
The reason why you slow down when disabling AB/WMD in this game is to improve gameplay, it's as simple as that.

1. If we have space air, we can have Mach speeds.
2. Hmmm... that 1 KG DPU round fits into a 1200 or 1400mm artillery cannon, which is roughly the same caliber as a VW Golf. Which leads me to believe the rounds are hollow. (Filled with space air, perhaps).
