Have a fairly healthy bank balance now that would allow me to upgrade to a BS (Phoon) with a good 10M to spare.
How much extra should I aim for before I go ahead and purchace it?
I know i'll need a fair chunk for the insurance (10-12M ISK ?), then to fit it out with half decent modules.
I'm really thinking I need more like 150M in the bank before I proceed.
Any ideas folks?

I put aside 250mill for each battleship.
That covers ship 70-100mill
Insurance - call it 30mill
Guns and Mods - the rest

Cost of BS * 2 to be safe. Insurance, fittings, plus extra cash for refitting if you blow yourself up.
That's just the rough guide I go by.

Age old advise: Don't fly what you can't replace.
And that means the ship, modules, your clone, your implants, etc.
Ie, don't put all your eggs in one basket.

I agree with ship x2 for cost. Thats about right. Normally it'll be a bit less than that, it depends what you're fitting really.

Insurance: 20-25 Mill for Plat (forgot the exact figure)
Guns and Mods: 50m or so

130M is enough for an insured Typhoon with a standard setup. It's of course up to you how much you want to spend on the modules, but you will get a regular fitting with that.

What mods are you planning to use? You can outfit a BS, and insure it for 125m for tier2, or like 90 if tier1, but it'll be pretty bad, TBH. T2 tier2 BSes can cost 200m, or more. :S

I think I spent maybe 150mil buying, insuring and outfitting my i1st Raven.
was 85m for ship (yay for friends)
about 22mil for 6 seige IIs
30mil for insurance
about 10mil-ish for the named hardeners (cept 1), and XL& Large SB IIs

i think it's very simple: cost of the ship + cost for insurance + 2x the cost of the modules.
you have the fitting you wanted to start with and you can get over the loss.
but it was allready said

Battleship tier 2 = 100 mil
Platinum insurance = 30 mil
Guns Tech 1 = 40 million
5 million each.
other modules tech 1 = 20 million.
total = 190 mil
This is if you equipt yourself with just low end modules and some named guns.

I spend about 100mil isk whenever I fit and purchase a geddon. Using all best named/t2 gear.
