Its neither. Its entirely intentional: you can't spam hoardes of containers next to each other.

I tried to launch three secured containers for self, and it tells me, after I successfully launch the first one, that I cannot launch a containers safely within 5,000 meters of veldspar. Is this a game error, or is it due to low anchoring level (1)?

I think the container has to be anchored before it will accept a password. If you dump it in .8+ space it won't allow you to anchor it so won't allow it to be secured. At least that is my understanding.

Thank you Dark Shikari. So I guess that means I will just have to space them apart then eh? And thanks to those who tried to bump my post... thats why they have a new topic button

In order for a can to be secure it has to have a password and be anchored.
You cannot anchor in 0.8 and above, so it can then be stolen (the entire can, not just the contents).
If you anchor a secure can, you then have to set the password. This must be done everytime you anchor it as scooping the can appears to reset the password. Once you've entered the password once, it doesn't ask for it again when you try to access the contents, but will still ask anybody who tries to open the can for the first time.
