Alot of my criteria is in the Title;)
I played EQ, and left 18 months ago, moved on to World of Warcraft, lasted a year in that, moved to BF2, got 2 months out of it, and now i came to Eve, been 4 months so far.
Eve is a great game, and long term at that. Its daunting some times watching the 9 day timers for skills tick down, but one needs to get through it.
Any ways, i am looking for a new MMO / Online game (Preferred Fantasy=P...) any ways, Vanguard is still in Beta, and i dont know of any other future games soon coming out. Are there any now that might hold my interest? or are considered nice games to some of you out their?
I would appreciate and help in finding a new game ;) Again, i like fantasy above all other scenarios (Ever since DragonLance Chronicles) so that would be nice... and also, Please suggest a game that has good PvP in it. i.e. PvP where the heart beats strong, and the blood races, which happenens for me in Eve, and happened for me on Vallon Zek in EQ=P heh heh. any ways, This long post has only one goal... - Help me figure out a new game to keep me entertained for a time being, that would be much appreciated ;) Thank you.

even though it may be a year away, Darkfall looks to be pretty sweet. if you're a fan of old school UO, it sounds like something really worth playing. i just can't wait to play a thief Designer Baby. Use in sentence "You have a very nice designer baby sir, but mine is immune to cancer."
I know a guy who bought a used car once. Two years later, BAM! Herpes. |

i'm tempted to play WoW again, since i only did a trial last time (the rp was fun ) but i can't justify paying for 2 eve accounts as well as a WoW on a students budger.

Edited by: Nurkinn on 23/06/2006 19:03:55 Darkfall is a game on the horizon, indeed it is. As well as Vanguard, but again, these games are months away.
DAoC i would have to look into, imho, a game needs a balance of strong pvp, and pve to survive. Does DAoC have any PvE?
World of Warcraft is a strong going game right now, which sadly is bringing in enormous amounts of money, and it's turning game creators heads. I said sadly because WoW caters to the PvE, its PvP is laughable at that. You have to spend enormous hours in the Battlegrounds to even TRY and benefit from PvP.... also, it is "staged" when people go into the BG's they look who's their, their classes, and they no their job instantly.
there is NO aspect of the unknown in WOW, and things are often memorized on what to do depending on who you fight.
blah, im ranting about WoW, steering away from my point of view.
So you all know WoW and you just got my opinion... in short, its a PvE game. (And if any one has noticed, or in just my own opinion, the game after a year or so, lost thousands and thousands of customers that enjoyed PvP... this comes with no backing of facts, i just believe that WoW lost it's PvP based people after we were fed up of how the PvP system was done)
Any ways, the only game i can give that runs completely around PvP and went down hill because of no PvE was a game called: Shadowbane. This was a decent game that revolved just around PvP, in the end game, thats all their was. and that game didnt thrive imho.
I kind of lost where i was going with this post, but yea... Any one have any thoughts, ideas, comments :)? If anything, ill look into DAoC now, Thanks.

I'd say DAoC has a good mix of RvR/PvP and PvE, its a pretty solid game.

Sorry, but Vanguard is doomed to failure.
It's for sado-masochists, who somehow think corpse runs and other stone-age MMO mechanics somehow make a game. A game built upon extended grinds and spawn camping is a dinosaur.
I call it "first **** syndrone." You can't get over the first gal/guy you laid, so you're fixated on that person, even if they were mediocre.
EQ is the first **** of a lot of MMO gamers, and they can't see that the fun they had can't be re-created, even in EQ itself.

If Dark and Light ever gets over it's (big) problems, it'll be a good game. It has potential, so it might be worth keeping an eye on.

At the risk of sounding like a fanboy, I must say that none of the MMOs currently available come even close to EVE. I would give WoW a try if Blizzard gives a decent european trial, but I doubt it would keep me amused for more than a couple of weeks.
As for future MMOs.. well I had high hopes for a MMO once, even preordered it, but in the end it turned out to be mostly vaporware... as the devs make good on only about 20% of the promises they made during developement. (read: Horizons)

I think the problem is that no new MMO can come close to EVE the way it is now, because over the course of three years CCP has improved on EVE to such an extent that no new MMO can come close to it on release.

DAoC is dying hard from what I've heard. A friend whose played it since it went public kept trying tog et me to join, but stopped a few months back because people weren't playing as much as they used to.
I'd love for there to be a fallout MMO though, but only if they gathered black isle back together to make it.

HG:London DnD Online when they make it last longer than a weekend
WH:O was on there until I heard EA bought out Mythic. It's not that I'm anti-EA, it's just that I know what EA has let happen to their past MMORPG projects.
Still waiting for someone to make a WH:40k MMORPG :(

What's the point of starting to play a game that will be killed by EA in the near future anyways?

hellgate isnt an MMO in your conventional sense: 2,000 ppl in the same server. but if has every other characteristic and there is going to be an optional monthly fee. so something is going on with it... we'll just have to wait and see.

Since Mythic has been bought out by EA, I doubt DAoC has much time left. The Mythic brass has been reassuring potential customers on the Warhammer boards that everything is ok, yet they won't address the DAoC community. Bad sign, don't bother.
I really dont know of any other MMO's that come close to EVE. Well those that have PVP anyway.

DDO doesnt have any PvP anyways and HG:London is as much an MMO as D2 is an MMO (as in it ISNT)

I'm looking forward too Huxley, has potential. Warhammer online is looking good and if doesn't getting taken in the rear quarters by the ebil @#$%$^$%& that are EA, it should be good. And the guys doing it have a couple of other interesting projects as well.

Guild Wars is not new, but has the best PvP. Dont listen to the naysayers who only played the PvE part and dont understand the skill system.
Age of Conan sounds good, it will supposedly have mass PvP combat where some players get to lead huge armies.
