OK, maybe you should try naming a few that have a sandbox style of play and have most regions open to the casual player. I am not interested in WOW, I prefer space sims with a large variety of ships, good graphics, no constant grinding and the ability to get somewhere in the game (ie: some experience) before getting involved in PVP all the time. I also want to chat to others online who play so that knocks single player on the head. Believe me, I have searched long and hard and Eve is the ONLY game that fills those criteria. When a game comes along that rivals Eve but with more content for the casual and solo player, maybe then you can start barking about playing another game, (I'll probably be playing it anyway). Until then, don't presume to tell us what we should do with our money or recreational preferences.
The point goes beyond that 0.0 and Alliance politics are the most interesting/fun part of EvE. You're right, opinions can differ on that.
However, imagine for a second that 0.0 space would not exist. All we would have is Empire. What would happen to the game? The whole driving force would be gone. If you get attacked in an Empire war, run to the other side of Empire, nothing to defend, nothing to lose. Hide in an NPC station for a few days and its over. Also nothing to conquer. Even if your opponent stands and fights, and you kill him/drive him off, in Empire 20 others will take his place in a heartbeat.
0.0 Space and the conflicts there is what is the driving force behind most of EvE. The warring parties there consume vast amounts of minerals, ISK, ships, supplies in endless conflict, driving the empire economy as we have it today. Without 0.0 and the endless PvP conflicts there, EvE would be a pointless boring game.
CCPs concern is to keep 0.0 conflict alive and kicking because its the lifeblood of this game, which also means that because of the risks it must be more profitable than Empire space.
Driving people into 0.0 will put a greater drain on resources there, increasing conflict, it also means that 0.0 becomes less attractive compared to empire. Which means that empire profitability must be reduced again, to keep people coming to 0.0.
I think this is based on supposition. It only takes 10 seconds to press F10 and see that the majority of ships lost, by far a huge majority, are in empire systems most probably caused by mission running and gate camping empire systems.
Also the largest proportion of the playerbase, also easily seen as a vast majority with F10, are in empire space, consuming.
Empire drives Eve and thats clearly seen in a few seconds by hitting F10.
