does anyone else get porblems running 2 clients at once? i created an alt account which is not much good now 'cos i cant run both at once. What happens is i can run one eve OK but when i try to boot up a second client it playes for a few seconds to a minuit or so then hard resets my computer (like the reset button on the case was pushed) then the comp. reboots, somtimes the computer hangs and i have to manualy reboot my comp (cntrl alt del dosnt work i have to swich off then on again)
i have a mid-low spec system but i have run 2 clients with no problems B4, i had to reformat my hd and have had this issue ever since.
i have amd 64 2800+ 512mb ram gforce FX5200 onboard sound (which is turned off) win ME (I know but its the only one i have lol)
my computer has been reformated so with the exceptions of wimamp, winrar and some other small programs, the only installed prog. is eve,
all the drivers to by knowladge are up to date and my video driver is the one which i had installed b4 the reformat(eve worked ok then)
help please im at a loss to explain this and i dont want to have to reformat again

use winxp and set up a second user account in windows with a password, then copy eve folder to another folder so you have 2 copies of eve.
then when you want to run the second eve account start the second copy of eve by rightclicking on the shortcut for the second eve and select "run as" and enter the name and pass for the second windows account and you should be rolling.
your graphics card and memory seems abit weak though so it propably will not run that smoothly.

Your computer just sucks tbh
I can run 2 accounts fine at once, know plenty of others who can to. Can run 3 before it starts to get grumpy! but yeh.
Could be ME, could be the mediocre GC lack of RAM etc Not sure

Edited by: Testy Mctest on 24/06/2006 11:34:24 Im surprised you can run WinME crash free with your system, though. ME doesn't like modern hardware.

thanks for the constructive comments
But u may want to go and read my post again (u obviousley didnt read it ). I do know my comp is low end i did say this so i dont need people to tell me this, but eve is 5 years old my computer isnt.
so older hardware isnt a problem.
I also stated it has worked fine in the past its just since a reformat that im having problems
U dont need an uber computer to run eves dated graficx engine, maybe when they update it i will consider buying a new one or upgrading.
but any other ideas are welcome. ------------------------------------------------ dnot slag my speling i havv a dislexik keeboard ________________________________________________ |

You're trying to run TWO copies of EVE at once. That's the problem. Your computer may be able to run one client but clearly it can't run 2.
WinME is almost certainly a problem too. That's what, 8 or 9 years old? And it was rubbish when it was new. Chances are that because of running such an old, unsecure OS, your PC is riddled with viruses and spyware which won't be helping matters.
Get winXP, update your RAM & graphics card, then try running 2 clients again.

Ok, just to get things on the straightened out and us on the correct page, we have:
You reformated your harddrive and installed a fresh copy of Windows ME You installed Chipset drivers for your motherboard ( Be it Nvidia, VIA or SIS and in the case of SIS you installed the AGP Driver) You installed your previous graphics driver, if you have used a later version of your motherboard chipset drivers then I would up grade your graphics driver also. Sound is not an issue as you have it disabled.
I know you say you have run two clients before without issue, but when things start resetting for no reason I tend to check memory, (Download and burn to a cd and boot from this), and run a scandisk just to be sure.
good luck

Ihave a similar problem, I'm fairly sure my RAM is faulty. So if possible try swapping your RAM out and see if it still happens.
Also, it could be a heat issue. Goodluck fixing it anyway. Your signature is too large! Please resize it according to the forum guidelines. Jacques Archambault |

do you have the exact same drivers you did before?
as said, I'm suprised that works much at all with WinME... its just.... not good at all.
I highly reccomending finding a way to use WinXP, it'll be massively better.

Ok, we know it worked before you reformated, but you cannot use that as a diagnostic tool to find out what is wrong now. It could be a coincidence that maybe now your PSU is on the way out now, maybe a stick of RAM worked loose, maybe the BIOS reset and the memory settings are incorrect (should take it from SPD but sometimes it doesn't) Maybe a driver was missed or the incorrect one installed. You have to establish that the hardware is good, then the OS, then the drivers. Otherwise you will go around in circles changing things at random because it used to work before the install.

omg I can run 3 clients! however just stating that doesn't help the OP in any way.
If it's just resetting like someone pushed the reset button it could be a cooling problem. I had a similar problem last summer and a couple of extra case fans and a better thermal paste sorted it out straight away.

I believe the minimum system requirements for Eve call for Windows 2000 or XP. I'm sure you can get Me to run the game but you will be playing on an untested OS with unpredictable results. You really should consider XP.
Add a bit more ram as well. I can run two clients just fine with 1GB of ram and about 200MB to spare.
I turn the sound off when running two clients.
A little trick for low end computers... manually set the size of your virtual memory and move your virtual memory file onto a second hard drive then your OS. It speeds things up quite a bit.

first thing is first get rid of windows ME. It is by far the worst, most insecure, buggy version of windows that has ever been released.

I found on machines with less than a gig of ram it can be hard to run multiple clients, it also depends on your graphics card.
Also, if there is a conflict with your most up-to-date driver it can cause problems.
Lastly, clear out your cache except for settings folder (your insta folders)

why? the performance increase blows pretty hard, and some software/driver compatability sucks hard.
I ran x64 for about 3months, then formatted back to XP pro. Its just not worth it atm.

Just and FYI, You don't need to run multiple accounts through different directories. I run 2-3, all from one installation. The only time you need a 2nd directory is for the test server. -----
