Weird....the game will pause every minute for about 3 seconds and then go back to normal......then 1 min later it does it again and repeats this over and over every minute....anyone have any ideas why? I have a good rig too.

You should post to the "Known Issues and Workarounds" thread. That is a better place to work out this problem. Read the stickies in that forum and try some of the suggestions.

I've seen this before...
Do you have your latest video/motherboard drivers?

Do you have any programs that run in the background that do stuf every minute? I have had the same kind of problem with a wallpaper manager that changed the wallpaper after a set amount of time. Now I only let it change when I log in. Try to turn off any program you dont need to play eve and see if one of them interfears with eve.

I have the same problem. It also seems the longer I play the worse it gets.
Background programs don't take any cpu load (ok, winamp takes a little, but it's not that). Eve seems to take 100% load for a couple of seconds every minute or so.
It's not swapping either. Eve only uses very little ram.
I haven't found a way around this and just got used to it.

Happened to a friend of mine, turned out to be a virus
If you haven't got decent/ up to date AV cover, you could do worse than quickly running Stinger, McAfee's cheap tool that detects and cleans the most prevalent viruses (virii?) --

And to those with this issue, is it specifically a minute? What I mean to say is, is it consistently periodic and not just "very often it freezes for a few seconds"? If it's in fact well-timed, it's got to be something you're running, either that or you're warping into something nasty every minute.
I'd say processor but remembering the OP's P4 3.0 I'm gonna say otherwise, since I've got a Celeron 1.0 and it works...well it works okay anyway. A 3 would have no problems. ___________________________________________

It sounds like the client memory leak is back, but I thought they fixed that?
If it's not using a swap file properly, then you may need to re-configure your windows systems settings.

Do you have an nForce motherboard, and are using onboard sound? If so, ensure the sound output is set to stereo (headphones or speakers), the equaliser is turned off, and all enviromental effects are off.
What else? The sqlserver process takes chunks of cpu every minute or so, but you are unlikely to have that installed unless you do lots of web stuff, or have a Microsoft programing language installed.

Try turning off sound in EVE (ctrl-alt-shift-f12).

Not that I know of.
And yes it happens every minute at the same time. It has to be something im running or a memory leak. Problrm is I have NO idea where to start tweeking

If you sort processes by cpu usage in the task manager, does one process pop to the top whhen the lag occurs? If so, that's your problem.
If not, go to the performance tab of the task manager. Go to the "view" menu at the top and check "Show Kernel Times" Watch the CPU useage bar. The green section represents all the tasks loaded by windows, which are the ones you see on the Processes screen. The red section represents the low level kernel drivers. When the lag shows, does the red section spike?
This will help narrow down the cause.

Yes!!.....the "system idle" pops to the top at the same time the 1 min cycle comes around! What does that mean and how do I stop it?

Uh.../me is baffled
System Idle process I thought was the one that basically meant "nothing's happening"...

Sounds like a garbage collection cycle. Not sure what you can do about it, though.

Does your Hard Drive light come on during these pauses? It could be that you need to disable the drive indexing service on you hard drive(s)
Right click on the drive from "My Computer", go to "Properties", and then uncheck "Allow Index Service to index this drive for fast file searching"

Try disabling the indexing service anyway, and let us know.
Also, I can't remember if it has been asked, but what firewall / virus protection do you use?
I'm sorry if it seems like a lot of questions, but sometimes these are not simple problems.

Glad to see a post on this, I have the exact same issue. After playing 6 or more hours straight I get the pauses. I have the same set as Mekrunt, except I have a x800xt video card. The only resolution I can do is log out and reboot. Its good for another 6 hours after that. Definitely sounds like a memory leak

Edited by: Jason Hawke on 27/06/2006 19:29:35 All of you are wrong :P
Well for my case anyways. I had the exact same problem,,, all I was doing was mining, then went into a complex mission... Every minute or so I would freeze for 2 to 3 seconds each time.
It couldn't be my drivers, I have up to date drivers (as a gamer). Not my system, I can play Doom 3 (a system killer) on near max settings. Not my sound, see #1.
Think about it, you have 1500 people on the same chat channel at the same time and can have as many as 100 people talking at the same time... anyways, it sounds silly, but that fixed me.
What it ended up being... the Rookie Help Channel. I "closed" that chat window, no more freezes. Now if I am warping and bring up the market window and go to region, yeah it will freeze for a moment clientside,, no big deal. The chat window was my problem.
