Make the asteroid belts more dynamic. Instead of semi-stationary rocks, have them moving and tumbling about at significant speeds. Make the miner chase the asteroid, then once in range, lock it with a stasis mod made just for rocks. Then the miner can have his rock.
Also, asteroid fields can be a hazzard. Make rock bumping eat at your shields and armor. Give it a cool visual/sound effect as well.
Mining will never be boring again. Ladies, you know what they say about guys with big noses right? Heh-heh!! That's right, it means they are either Jewish or Italian.

Check the comet mining thread from a while back, similar idea but more fleshed out and better discussed already |

Anything repetitive can become boring.
Would you say flying a pimped out t3 in a fleet of dreadnaughts and carriers in order to rapidly blap sleepers under 10k+ incoming dps and massive nueting could be boring? It's one of the most soul crushingly boring activities in eve PvE.
Since mining has to stay aimed at a lower SP crowd for entry, any environmental hazards/issues have to be aimed at them. As such, said hazards would be pathetically easy for any more advanced player to deal with. |

You've done my job before! I'm not alone! Seriously though he's right. One of the reasons it's so bad is because you have to be on the ball and present the whole time and ensure that you do not fall asleep. Mining has the luxury of being accurately measurable and timeable. So it's easy to afk or alt tab with little consequence from your environment. Unlike C5-6 sites, where all members, but the boosting ship have to have their eyes glued to the screen because a single F up of a single fleet member can lose you well in excess of 10-20 billion isk for a measly 700 million(That's a really ****** risk reward ratio when compared to other activities fyi). If you wanted to make mining more interesting and simultaneously reward players who are willing to put in the extra effort then why not have the option to open a mini-game that rewards you with either slightly more yield or slightly shorter cycles? It would restart each cycle of the laser you enable it from, although the rewards would effect every laser, with the point being that if you are willing to put in the time and effort you should be able to achieve slightly more than somebody semi-AFK. |
