It really ****es me off when they can win on getting a penalty in the 93rd minute, ESPECIALLY WHEN HE'S ******* FAKING IT!
And that it was that arrogant son-of-a-***** Snotti who scored it didn't help it one bit. Man, and I'm not even Australian.

Yeah as I said in the other topic; this is a victory stolen. The fact that Totti scores, who nearly killed an American earlier this tournament, sums it up for me. Perhaps a bit exaggerating, but he shouldnĘt have been allowed to play further in the tournament.

Edited by: Buraken v2 on 26/06/2006 17:36:33 Italy was one man down during second half of match
Australia was seriously owning italy during second half, a goal was imminent.
they played 90min, they got an extra 3min to play on
on 92.55 (no joke) italy got a penalty.
conclusion: Italian fotballers should win Oscars for theif mother*******faulplay

In 93rd minute a referee should think twice and then some more and then think again if it really was a penalty before calling it.
With one (bad) decision, the referee just let Italy go to the next round.

Basicaly the guy (aus defender) was on the ground after missing the tackle/ball...
You then saw a good second later the italian forward move toward the player.. arch his foot over the player on the grounds back and fall over him....
It was a case of cheating.
The defender was motionless on the ground... the player moved to him on seeing his position and dived over him.
Rather sad.

Still. We should be proud of the aussie team, they got where no aussie team had gotten before. it SHOULD have been extra time, no doubt. but we put up a good show, and if kewell would have played, italy would have been OMGWTGBBQPWNZORED
there's always 2010
so, aussies, be proud of our team

Btw, it's always the small countries that get thrown out by referee decisions. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there are plenty cases to prove this.

I think a lot of Aussies wouldn't have had a problem seeing Australia lose, they've already done a massive amount for the sport here, as well as bringing Australia together (that may sound weird, but have you ever seen so many Aussie flags around).
It just leaves a sour taste when the game is lost in such a ridiculous way.

Edited by: Lienzo on 27/06/2006 05:29:24 Can't say I'm an avid fan of the sport. It's right up there with NASCAR for me.
It has it's interestin points though. Like around the 80th minute or so, when the tenth (ninth? They keep moving I can't count them.) man went down from kicking someone, he seemed to be to be expressing significant discomfort, but then seemed to "get better" a second later.
More interestingly, is it simply not a Occidental phenomenon to fixate on the injuries? In the "other" western hemisphere, when a sports injury happens, there's usually an ambulance, and sometimes a priest. In the broadcast, they just switched to the next play. In a country where something that can actually go stale is called "beer" by the corporations that sell it, (they actually boast about freshness) I guess that makes for an interesting diversion between the 60th and 90th point.
I have to ask if it is really as filtered and sterile as it comes across on the tube? Where's the cheerleaders and marching band?

(even though that one ranls up witht he worst if seen even if graham poll does take some beating with the crap decesions he makes on a weekly basis in the premier)

Umm nowere because their a waste of time and completly pointless, and if you need marching bands and cheerleaders to enjoy your sports then I feel sorry for you.

I'm part Italian myself, and I was screaming blue murder when that penalty was given. For me,it just summed up the petty, cynical and underhanded manner in which football is played in Italy, The authorities still refuse to either do anything about the persistant diving and play-acting, or to bring in video replays, which have been standard in cricket and rugby for several years now.
I started off this tournament with the best of wishes for Italy, but having seen these pathetic tactics against the United States and Australia, I just want them eliminated as soon as possible; football of this kind is a blight on the modern game.

I am in agreement with the posts, it was a bad descision. But the Oz defender showed real international inexperience by going to ground. he had had a great match but got caught up in the excitement of the moment, and made a mistake. In the 3rd minute of injury time, at 0-0, against the Italians, never,NEVER go to ground unless 100% sure of a sucessful tackle. They will go down, the will feign injury and they will win soft penalties.
But gratz to the Aussies on a great show and a brave try -----------------------------------------------
