So what good are killrights? Thoroughly useless! All I've ever seen whenever I've released them is that within a day they get together with one of their scummy cohorts to take care of that by flying a cheap-ass rookie ship and having butt-buddy take them out.
The entire "criminal system" here is a frigging joke. |

Depends on what the person you have the KR on typically flies, and how much you are charging for those rights. If you make it free or almost free, yeah anyone not a perpetual flashy will do that. If you know what your attacker generally flies and its' approximate value, you can set it high enough that people will buy it and still be able to make money with a successful kill. Sometimes, stupid people forget they have KRs on them and fly a blingy mission boat or a miner/industrial, and you can get hilarious lossmails for your revenge. Against me? Yeah those KRs are pretty worthless, since anyone can shoot me for free. Making hisec better...one Catalyst at a time

If you check my kills in amarr afew days ago I killed a Vindi & Orca both with 1isk killrights.
I also managed to steal a freighter with 14 billion isk cargo as he flew around with a 1 isk killright and ejected.
Only useless to people who don't understand when to activate them or how to search for them. M33P |

How will I know when I am ready, oh sage of the forums? Perhaps when I cry about things I dont understand. Oh, I know! Not only will I cry about those things, but I will do it in a place where all the people who cause the problem in the first place frequent!

Your error was likely in releasing them for too cheap to the general populous. Keep in mind that if you make them available to anyone, then they are also available to the friends and alts of the individual in question. I myself am willing to pay up to 10 million on my own killrights, and will activate them with an alt and destroy my own Ibis. Anything cheaper than that and I just laugh at my victim.
Killrights DO have a use, you just have to learn to use them properly. For example, let me tell you a story, I'll omit the names for the sake of OPSEC.
Some guys we consider to be our enemies were at war with a corp and killing a tower, we patiently waited for the tower itself to pop, and then warped in with our own freighter and started unanchoring and stealing modules. (This was in HS) One of their pilots took a disliking to this and fired on our freighter, getting his drake concorded, much to our amusement. We continued stealing as many modules as we could while they tried their best to bump the freighter away. We didn't get much isk wise, but the frustration we caused was awesome to see in local.
Well, a few days later, we ran some locator agents, and sent our a scout. To our surprise the Drake pilot was mining in a hulk. A few minutes later, our freighter pilot lands on him in a bestower, locks him up, activates the kill right and points him. This was very much intentional, and the bestower was brick tanked (as best our poor little freighter pilot could manage anyways). Seconds later a small flock of mallers land on him and make short work of both his ship and his pod (think he had +3's or something). Turned out the warp disruptor wasn't really necessary as he was VERY afk, it was 15 minutes before the Orca and other mining barge warped off.
So you see, killrights are FAR from useless. They just aren't a guaranteed path to ultimate revenge. Tengu Grib > I agree. The distinct lack of quality spaceships makes RL the worst space sim ever. SolidX > i'm an alt IRL Guilty conscience? Buy a mining permit today. www.minerbumping.com |

As for the OP. Working as intended. Kill rights are great, perhaps you can figure out how to profit off of them. Thank you for the information. You, at least, took the time to clarify matters and explain how best to utilize them, instead of being a snarky A-hole like some others. I appreciate the time you took to explain.

If you really want revenge you should look into transfering the kill right to someone who will actively hunt down the target personally. That might cost you some isk to make it worthwhile though. |

is it necessarily others being snarky assholes, or them being offended that you were so entitled that you couldn't be bothered to google killrights or search the forums for the many, many stories of how they've been used to successfully get large killmails and/or activation fees?
i'm leaning towards others just being offended at your complete lack of self-motivation, rather than others going out of their way to be an ass to you. i make spreadsheets for pretty cheap. contact me for more info.

Check my bio ingame, the section Killrights Claimed in particular. I was ganked by a group and podded, and while most pilots cleared their KR's a few did not. One of those few ran into our camp and we killed & podded him... he lost his slave set. |

Not empty quoting.
To the OP, killrights work just fine if you bother to figure out how they work. Or, even quicker, figure out how Google works. It takes a great deal less typing than coming here to spout off, too. It's a win/win for everybody. "Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

Kill rights are very good for scamming people if you had some players who disliked you while you do ~leet highsec pvp~. I used to deal with a few players who were hated by a significant amount of people in the trade hubs they hung out at (Amarr, Dodixie, Rens, Jita). The scam went like this:
- They suicide a rookie ship at me somewhere where they won't get podded during their GCC - I set my kill rights on them to a good value, let's say mmm... 300 mil ISK, 500 mil, 1b, and so on. Higher if they liked to bait in a blingy ship (dangerous, though). - They do their usual thing but some players with a raging hard on for killing the hated players wouldn't check the price and buy the kill right by mistake. - I give them most of the killright money, and if they end up dying (usually not, because they can just dock up!).
We got quite a bit of money from Marmite Collective jarheads back in the day. Anyways, my role in this scam is irrelevant for those who have a 2nd account/friend. I am the Kingpin of the Crime and Punishment forum. |
