My opinion that logoff trap is lame. It is contradictory to the game idea. Share your thoughts.

Yup, it is lame, and I dislike it so much that if I find out if any of my guys do it, well, corp chat isn't a pretty sight. Lets leave it at that.

Edited by: Chochko on 28/06/2006 09:35:03 Let me share something ... I have 100 "unnamed" alliance members in my buddy list and i see mass logouts. After some time i see mass logins - the result someone dies.

Is this the "New way" of PVP? How you can beat a force which dont fights? If the oponent has equal numbers to our force "logofski" card comes in play. ---------------------------------------- Ancient Japanese saying: The one who owns the minigun, fears not! |

Is the title a hint to who you are complaining about Chochko?
Oh and about the point. Ofcourse it is lame. Any OOG contamination of the IG environment is bad from a purists pov anyway :)

Yes, "logoffski" is lame.
IMO if you are in someone else's sovereign space who lists you as an enemy, you should not disappear when you log off.
This means that you'll have to leave their main system(s) before quitting... or find a very deep safespot.

As long as they stay logged off I dont mind, it is the mass logins that kills. Logoff trap sounds like they try to bore you to death

Im guessing you lost your freighter to RAT. or RA to login trap or summit.

I luv it ... it was only us in the South that suffered from this and peeps would say "valid tactics".
Now the North is suffering too (I think its Section XIII leaving RA and coming up there -probably-) and suddendly all of EvE realises how lame and game breaking this is

I suggest you update your intelligence on current location of ERA ;) (hint - it's not very "North")

its a shame, and good pvpers shouldnt have to use it..
a option in the maps to see how many pilots are logged in a system would resolve that lame crap - Purple Conquered The World, We the Universe.

The problem with things like this is that if everybody else is doing it, then you either do it yourself or you're at a disadvantage.
I know that it's very very often pods get away from certain situations where they should not. Does that mean I'll do the same? I haven't yet. I'd like to say I won't, but in the heat of the moment, I honestly don't know. Probably not I think. Probably...
If it was possible to overload a rifter and have it three times that of a hauler. Everybody else is flying a rifter, do you fly a hauler or a rifter?
Insta bookmarks, against game design, but we all use them...
You have to draw the line somewhere, and I think everybody has their limits.
Something else though. Should it not be possible to take a fleet of ships deep, deep, deep into space and turn off all the engines, all the systems but the bare minimum to keep a voice link going and life support for the pod. Perhaps then it wouldn't be possible for them to be scanned out, or detected in any way. Remember of course that space is VAST. Really, really VAST. Does that go someway to simulating a login trap?
Anyway, yeah, abusing game mechanics to the point where it's barely within the rules, in order to achieve something which goes against the spirit of the game is not what Eve should be allowing.

Yes, it's lame and yes, it should be classed as an exploit.
It's easy enough to track, if it were made an exploit by simply linking the user activity of corp members together to see large scale log ons.
We have a corp in placid who is doing this to us at present, it's annoying but proves that they're unable to fight us without log-in blobbing

Can't argue with that.
Anyways they only see their side of the coin, and this topic is just a flamebait.

Login traps verge on exploiting, however logging off is alright under certain circumstances in my opinion. For instance, your gang gets camped in a system by a group 3-4 times your size. All gates are bubbled and camped and there are probes out scanning for you. Often logging off and waiting for the way to clear is the only way to survive.

Because in my opinion you are using out of game communication to get an advantage in-game whilst not actually logged in.
Now some might argue that the same goes for any useage of TS or ventrilo but in those cases you are actually logged in to the game and you can be countered in-game.
Having a scout shout "they are here, XXXX is primary"on TS and everybody logs in at the same time is a whole other ballpark. ------------------------- Ten thousand days in the fire... |

"Zergski" can be countered, by "Blobski" or Fitting. "Uberblobski" can be countered with bigger blob, with hit and run tactics etc. "Logoffski" cant - the only way is to use it by yourself.
BUT why to go down low to your opponent level where he can beat you with expirience? ---------------------------------------- Ancient Japanese saying: The one who owns the minigun, fears not! |

Why flamebait? I didnt named NO ONE so i`m not baiting no one to flame?
Oh yeah, you didn't name anyone - sure =)) Like tell me is there a person here that doesn't understand that you are trying to flame Red\RAT?
You say that, not me! I was talking in general!

It'd be abused less if the ships had a longer timer on them before they dissappear, give people with porbes about 2 hours to find them.
You certainly wouldnt log your fleet off in a system if there was a larger chance that you'd all be flying pods when you logged back in.
