Second, anyone beliveing that removing local would help pirates is sadly mistaken. Sure it would prevent miners noticing a pirate presence at the first glance, but have you ever thought about the fact, that it also prevents pirates from noticing the miners in the system?
This is a ridiculous argument, because miners are static. They sit where the ores are, moving belts perhaps, sometimes systems, but mostly they don't move at all. During a mining session they might be static for hours, so you have the advantage - both because they are static and then because they can't see you.
Have you actually taken a look at the EVE universe? Getting from a 0.0 HUB to empire space can take up to 30 jumps in some cases if not more.
That far out in the middle of nowhere people can mine and rat in practically any system. Given a system has an average of say 8 belts, we talk about 100s if not 1000s of belts here.
Without local, the only way to notice a mining or ratting party would be to go into a system and scan each planet group or check each belt. Sure that would make finding targets easier.
As it is now, i just blaze through a patrol route using instas, and by simply watching local i can identify the systems in which i must look for targets. Even then, the targets may be in a safespot, or at a POS...
Removing local would surely help the pirates with the 1000s of 0.0 systems out there. You know what? Have it your way.. local makes my life as a hunter easier, not harder..
Except that the feature 'show pilots in space' is a pretty clear indicator where mining parties are occuring. Ratting parties don't tend to be huge, and if you ignore systems where complexes are, the larger groups of pilots in space are likely to be mining. This is because miners, as previously stated, are static, and stay still, allowing them to show up on the map.
Honestly, local only helps in.. local. If you already know the pilots are there, aren't you going to belt hop anyway?
