Hi. In regards to PvE and with no concern for defense is there a point to a small energy neutralizer over a nos?
Im specifically ignoring the difficultly in getting the cap to neutralize with and specifically ignoring the fact that a nos helps your defence by giving you more cap to tank with. What im getting at is a Nos takes energy but a while back they manifested it on NPCs so that they tank less when nosd. Im wondering after you nos them enough is that it? Because if so there wouldnt be a point to using an energy neutralizer? A neutralizer wouldnt help you kill anything faster in PvE than a nos would; it wouldnt just be worse it would pointless. And thats what im asking about.
This came up in the context of making a cheap disposable frigate for rat hunting in low sec and I toyed with the idea of using cap batteries and a neutralizer against cruisers with my nonturret slot. After I got it all fitted though I began to wonder if maybe neutralizing cap twice as fast didnt really end up doing much in PvE.
Anyone experiment with a neutralizer versus a nos to see the effect on NPCs?
Thanks.

In PvE? No, none at all. Use a NOS to help keep your own cap topped up.

See i was avoiding that "top off your" cap question. Im trying to isolate whether a neutralizer will let a frigate even kill a PvE cruiser any noticably faster then say the same frigate using a nos. "noticably" is really relavently faster. If a neutralizer doesnt even get you that then you dont even have to go to the "is it worth it" questions.

Rats with full cap or without Cap make no difference. They fight as if they dont need cap at all.
So a neutralizer offers 0 advantage in PvE.

Thats not true for rat tanking. They tank worse after you nos them. Other then that they dont use cap. We know this is true because developers discussed it when they added it to the game and it had more buzz back then. Came about a year ago or so.

I must say I agree with Hydrogen here - I didn't think NOS/Neuts had any effect on the rats themselves. Could you point us specifically to where you're getting this? (I'm not sure it was ever actually implemented)
That being said - you could always test it. Kill 3 cruisers without anything, kill 3 with a NOS and kill 3 with a neut. You may even be able to use the combat log analyzer to look at total damage - if the rat took more damage, then it was tanking better.

I hope you appreciate me doing the leg work for you I had to read about 20 patch notes before I found it. I had it pegged for coming in earlier then red moon rising. I almost blew ya off but figured what the heck i started the thread.

Bottom line of the NPC section of red moon rising. Its been used in level 4 missions to break tanks, but alas back to topic.
After this was posted I ran around in low sec fighting cruisers in my ultra T1 rifter (no module over 100k in value) I think Nosing up a size doesnt have a huge effect or... eyeballable =). Heavy nosing a battleship has people that are into it for helping breaking a tank. But small nosing a cruiser.. I dont think ever approaches the effectiveness of medium nosing it. So my original reason for investigating this relationship between neutralizers on an NPC and a nos on the same NPC has been subverted.

Neuts are useless for PvE.
They seemingly have no more effect than a nos, while chewing your own caps.
