I say his name in vain all the time. I find it much more acceptable than F****** Hell !!! Offensive I think not...... I read a funny article today on BBC news web site regarding whiners who are trying to take legal action against gangs who steal all their belongings in online games. What is the world coming to? Everyone wants everything now and they want it free with no effort on their behalf and cry when someone takes it away from them. Jesus.... it IS ONLY A GAME............ Had to make some comment to stop this thread looking so lame.

Some people are offended by the Christian tendancy to force thier beliefs on the rest of the world.
Did you know that Christmas was moved from it's original date in August to December in order to more easily assimilate pegans into Christianity by merging Christmas with the Yule holiday?
Or that Saint Patrick, the man who is perported to have driven the snakes from Ireland is actually a distortion of the original story where Patrick battled the Celtic warrior god Cernunnos, who appeared to him in the form of a snake?
Or that the image commonly recognized as that of Christ is actually adapted from the Greek image of Zeus?
And let's not forget the crusades...
I thought I had a point in there somewhere, but I guess I don't. Oh well.

Did you also know that the early Christians where so sick of romes immoral values, orgies, wife swapping, parties and decadence that they burned it down? Yup... the great fire of rome during Nero's rule.. the one that killed over 80,000 people indiscriminately. started by the christians. Go off to a good start didnt they?
This has been recently discovered in old hebrew texts (early christian propaganda) the plotted to punsh and burn the Romans, and show them what hell was like. Then Nero had them dragged through the streets in animal skins, flogged, and burned at the stake. The traditional Roman punishment for Arsonists. fitting, it suggests they are nothing but animals, then puts them to flames themselves so they know what its like.
Religion.. killed more people than both world wars put together. Great innit? now lets all hold hands and pray for those who lost their lives... NOT.
Its got nothing to do with power over people or back door taxation, honest. Now origionally it may have been well intended, in a time without police forces and clean living, it was intended as a way for people to live longer, happier, healthier lives while keeping law and order, i mean.. if you thought some all seeing bloke was watching you 24/7 you would behave right?
Then it was taken over by the corrupt powers that be... and we have the bas.tardised thing we have today called The Church. Time to lock up your sons.. the Priests are out

You've almost got it.
People have questions. They have fears. There's no shame in it, our questions and fears are what drive us forward as a species.
The problem comes when someone, ANYONE stands up and says "I have your answers. I can assuade your fears.". Because it IS about power. Power to influence people. Power to control people. Power to convince people that it is wrong to act in a way that threatens that power base. Oh yeah, and the power to back it all up with the threat of eternal suffering.
For over 800 years, the human race stood virtually still because of that power. Men and women were executed, or worse, excommunicated for putting forward ideas that threatened the power base of the clergy.
It (religion in general, not just Christianity) has never been meant "as a way for people to live longer, happier, healthier lives while keeping law and order", it was meant to force a pop.ulace with nothing to lose to bend to the will of the rulers by threatening them with the one thing mortal power could never take: a peaceful afterlife.

Your post is quite right, religion holds our advancement back. Our race has evolved as much as it can by natural process, but our bodies cannot keep pace with our brains now.
If it was not for religion, especially Christianity, i am pretty sure we would be at the very least 3000 years more advanced than we are now, or more (yes i know christianity is 2000 yrs old.. its an exponential effect of technological and scientific advancement though)
We could, quite probably be living on other planets within our own solar system. Maybe even cities out there on those planets.. not just little bases with a few hundered people living there.
Our culture, technology, medical science, quality of life, would all be much beter. And there wouldnt be as many wars as there are today... many of todays wars are still a knock on from wars caused by religous barriers and wars created hundereds, or thousands of years ago.
Wars today are still caused by it.. just look at Bin Ladens lot and what they triggered as a result of their fundamentalist, opressive, backwards beliefs.
Religion in EVE would be a good thing, maybe one for the devs to introduce, maybe RP more the emperors divine right and god status?
whilst good for EVE.. sure sucks what it has caused to the real world tho.

You know...
Mankind stands on the brink of greatness... we are unlocking the genetic code, Immortality is within out grasp, the stars are at our doorstep and soon..very soon we shall leave the cradle.
but it's all threatened by religion.
Religious groups try to ban stem cell research on aborted fetuses because it's "immoral" they're corpses, sad...but why waste what can be of use?
the same religious groups seek to ban cloneing and genetic engeneering "because it flies in the face of god" hate to break it to you, but god dosnt exist. there are enough holes in the bible to drive a mac truck through.
in the end i have to beleave mankind will overcome this stumbleing block, and look back in a thousand years from interstellar roads and laugh...
one can only hope...and maybe move that faith to something that realy exists..something that deserves it...
the Human Race...

To which I say: You listen too much to government crap.
Yes, religion causes a lot of bloodshed.
Are you saying that having George Bush controlling the overall most powerful military in the world is less dangerous?
BUT WAIT, sorry since all the news services hammer it into your head every day that Al Qaeda religious terrorists are ebil ebil ebil, you believe it. I'm not saying they're not... ...I'm asking you, is Al Qaeda and similar terrorist groups really such a threat in comparison to those they're fighting?
It's not just religion. You think religion argues that nukes are a viable method of resolving conflict?
Religion can be bad. Then again, so can a lot of other things. Anywhere you get humans, you get problems. So quit the bias against religion and close this lame thread . _______________________________________________________________________

Sc0rpion & Tristant - word brothas. hugs... we may live to see freedom of religious intolerance and oppression someday. dont hold your breath tho. Quote: Are you saying that having George Bush controlling the overall most powerful military in the world is less dangerous (re- than religion which causes a lot of bloodshed.)?
there is a difference?
last time i read the state of teh union address our prez gave the nod to "god" about 6 times in it. pretty much came right out and said that he was guided by divine providence. ******* great. no one else seemed to notice or mind.
funny... the pres didn't say in the SOTU address which "god" was guiding him and the united states. whether it was buddah, or allah, or jewish, or christian, or any of the otha flavas. but he did give us a clue that it was a "he".
the world sucks because of religion.
thus my name.

The point is, G. Bush would be G. Bush regardless of his reportedly zealous faith to "god". You think giving Tony Blair said nukes is any better? OMG WOW religion gets involved.
You know what, so does cooking. Without cooking, you'd have a hard time raising an army.
COOKING IS TEH EBIL!11!!

The fact that it's involved isn't the point I'm trying to make Iconoclast.

Quote: and this has what to do with eve?
this thread deals with the fact that these EVE forums have been censored by CCP.
this is bowing to a prudish value system that was established by religion. cus words, especially SEXUAL cuss words are bad god tells us! god does not like them, or like it when you have sex with mutiple partners or same sex partners! just like every other ****** up way religion tries to squash human sexuality, swear words are just a small aspect of that religious intolerance at work. other people telling you what is proper and what is not. good stuff huh?

You know, religion itself isn't bad, it's just that some of the people involved use it as a weapon/shield to justify their actions. Religion isn't the problem, people are the problem.
