Because X3 did that and then the framerate dropped to one frame each 3.148 months.
But I hear they patched that ... somewhat.

becuase it'd be the perfect way to grief people. go into their system, and blow up all their asteroids, especially the higher ones, when everyone was asleep/at work/afk...

That is not an asteroid that is a small moon, scientist speculate that an impact such as that formed the moon we have now, ejecting mater from earth into space which coalesced into our moon over many many years.

Then lets blow up moons. Instead of killing the POS, kill the moon, then the POS can't be anchored there.

astroids arent solid though, you can shoot through them. though they should block weapons fire allowing lesser armored ships to duck into the belts and then warp away or kick into a silent running mode that would cause them to drop off the overview.

Yeah, only reason I can think of anyone wanting to shoot an asteroid is to be a "griefer" so can't think of any logical reason for wanting this in EVE.

Screw that, I hate asteroids! Stupid things just get in my way causing mass confusion among the crew of my ship, to where they decide it's better to just make the ship dance in place, lowering my transversal, and allowing big huge guns to strike.
