Quote: ...but if your with the right corp, Eve is a totally diffrent game.
We see that a lot on these forums, yet few actually say what a makes a good corp. There are hundreds of mediocre corps in this game filled with people messing around doing nothing of substance until they get bored, cancel their accounts and quit.
Now's a good time to ask, "What's a good corp?"
I'll start by describing what I look for in a good corp. A good corp is focused on a specific mission, has a plan and timeline for attainment. The leadership is passionate and active in the day to day operations of the corp. Communication is regular, timely, polite and informative. Policy is clear. Training resources are readily accessible. There is a mentoring program for new recruits. Recruitment is constant. Discipline is valued and expected. The members treat each other with respect and courtesy. Members at large are active and contribute to each other's and the corp's well being. Their attitude is positive.
I've met one that came close to this description. Others in my experience aren't even worth mentioning.
So let's all please put our e-peens away, stow our smacktalk and talk straight about what a good corp is in EVE. Please give specifics. If you're in a good corp tell us what it's called and why you like it.
For those not in good corps this may help them find good groups to play with and enhance their enjoyment. For those who are in good corps this may help people appreciate what they have before they lose it.
Looking forward to your replies. Thanks!

I think a good corp is one that has the willingness and ability to help you towards whatever goals you have, be it pvp, carebear, ****star etc.

Pretty much the same stuff that makes for any other good online gaming group:
1. Learns and grows together. Humans at all level (leader or member) will make mistakes, and always have more to learn. Nothing turns me off faster than the guy who pretends like he knows everything. 2. Constant work towards improvement, both on an individual and corporate level.
3. Remembers to prioritize fun. Its really easy for a competitive team-oriented game to become work. Remember to have a good time while you're at it.
4. Honorable in its dealings. Both internally and externally it is important to treat people fairly and with respect.
Give me these traits, and any group can be enjoyable and successful. Sure, there's lots of administrative stuff that may make it easier to accomplish different goals at different levels, but as long as I'm with a group that is working with me, and having fun with me, then its all good.

Different corps for different people, but ultimately it is the individual personalities who make the corp and thus down to their recruitment.
A corp who accepts anybody will be an angry mob, swarp you to death but get bored and wander off after a while. a corp who recruits the best will grow slowly, but get progressively stronger and be better structured, more efficient and more family-like.

We have a slightly different view of what makes a good corp.
1) Its members
2) Its members being "equal".
3) Everyone participating in the things that need to get done, not just one or two guys calling the shots.
4) Not having a corp thief, I mean CEO taking all the isk for himself.
5) Having fun
These things are not in any perticular order, and there may be other important things but but I cant think of them atm.

I think I will support that both in game and out of game.

The simplest definition of a good corporation that I can come up with is:
It's filled with people you enjoy being with.

Direction/Goal: I think its important for any corp to have goals even if its just "Make the game enjoyable for our members".

The right corp, is one that fits in with your ideas about the game.
If it's not fun, it's not worth playing!

It's not about a "right" or "wrong" corp.
Every corp will change your game experience. Different people, different mindset, different tactics.
Just pick one you like.

a good corp is a bunch of people who are enjoying the gameplay, growing together and becoming very good at what they are doing, doesnt mather if the goals are eighter uber mining/production/agend violating or pod-travel services ;)

A Corp that has a Goal that is in line with your own and a good mature member base will enhance your gameplay.
No Matter how much fun the members are, if everyone is doing different things with different ideal's and goals, you may aswell be in a newbie corp. ********* The Content of this post is representative only of the views of Hughy & is in no way affiliated with the views and policies of my corporation or alliance.

A good corp is one that gives you the freedom to do what you want, while giving you the option to do something interesting.

STFU and get back to mining noob!
Well, we are hardly polite to eachother, and sometimes blow eachother up for kicks. Our policy changes weekly sometimes. The alcoholic ceo makes rash and stupid changes weekly, and in all honesty could give a **** less if there is an evil mutiny tomorrow. I would simply pod them all since they are noobs.
So far it seems to be working out pretty well.

The only corp i came into that i felt i LEARNED something was burn eden. They had most of your criteria, and altho i got shouted at a lot, and there recruitment policy isn't open, i would still say that i had a good time with it. I'm in a new corp now and so cant really comment on that but as for other corps, tbh i agree compleately. For me its either too much "profesionality" i.e. run like they THINK a business should be run, usually heavy on the "i'm boss" and lacking on the fun, or its a corp who lacks direction. I'm comin to the idea that a good corp in eve is 5 - 10 friends who fly together and maybe have a bunch of people around that. All to often people forget its a game.

Crap, I never though I'd say this, but Burn Eden 4tw!!1
Exactly how I feel about running Veto
It's the people that make a corp, along with dedicated and fair leadership, and above all lots of fun and a good relationship between members.

Edited by: Sakura Nihil on 01/07/2006 07:28:09 Things that come to mind with a successful corp:
- Fun - Willing teamwork amongst the members, no need to force them to work together - Respect for the rules - Trust - Good logistics - A leadership that is down to earth, goal oriented, and helps its members rather than themselves wherever possible - Leaders that work for the corp and its members, rather than the other way around - Training from older members to newer ones, the distribution of experience and tips - Activity - Love of the game

I have some experience with corps, both running them and being in them
I feel trust is paramount , as you can rely on your corp mates to help in a time of need.
Sharing info on ship setups, giving ships and isk when your mates are down and out , can make a world of difference for your mate.
Being an a corp with good industrial side is very good , free t2 for members is a rule that i respect.
And meaby the most important of all , having fun
I have been lucky enuff to been in 2 very good corps
