Edited by: Gnawl Sergner on 30/06/2006 01:56:18 I finally started training my learning skills (I have 1.4mil SP w/o learning skills, most are combat based - missiles, electronics/eng, Caldari ships) and I feel discouraged with pirating in Caldari ships. I want to get a good hold of things by myself first, but can I with Caldari frigates? Only the Kestrel and Merlin seem viable, but what exactly would I fit these with and how could I fight things other than frigates with so little firepower and shield/armor? Would it even be easy for me to locate other people in frigs in .4 and below?
I was thinking, until I get settled in with my learning skills, I'd want to at least get skills to help me with money making. Now right now I can do level 2 missions fine in a Caracal, but sometimes they get boring and I want to pirate. Should I maybe train up Amarr or one of the other three races frigs and their corresponding weapons? I've heard of people (Malka) do crazy things with other frigs, like the Punisher. Or is Caldari good enough, but I'm just not doing something right?

All about personal preference. If the Caldari frigs aren't doing it for you, check out the others. Maybe if you looked in the ships & mods forum you might find inspiration on which race to train for.
I trained for Ammar first since that's my race, and then Caldari sometime during the Amarr training. I find both to have their uses.
Try something out, see what you like. Besides, if you don't like it, well dealing with frigs that's 18,000 isk lost for a Racial Frigate skillbook and maybe a few hours. Train another one until you figure out which one you like best. ___________________________________________

dammit this is hard to refrain.
the punisher and rifter are prolly the best pvp frigs out there. pun for its tank and rof. rifter for no need for cap guns. (there might be better reasons.)
i have never pvped in a kessy so im not gonna post a setup other than scram.
for a punisher thou

I may try Gallente actually. I already have some skills in Gunnery and Hybrid turrets. Gallente and Caldari ships both use hybrids, so that'd be nice to go back and forth between ships and keep the same weapons. Gallente ships can snipe like crazy too :)

Actually Gallente ships were the last ships I would think of for sniping, but I guess you can snipe in any...Gallente is the race I have least knowledge of anyway...just those 1400mm Howitzer II's seem to be popular, and Tach IIs...what does Gallente use?
(oh and btw if you're gonna snipe don't use a frig but I bet you knew that) ___________________________________________

I made the transision to gallente ships as soon as i realized that caldari ships are total crap to pvp in until bs, Kessy is somewhat good with 4 rocket launchers but can hardly take any fire at all, and got a very small cap to go. First i trained up for the punisher, and with three small hybrid blasters small nos jammer ab, repper 200mm armour and 2 cap relays it really rox, i got to take out a few cruisers in it.Amarr also have the cruiser called maller witch is very suitable for pvp with the right setup later, but personally i ended up with the thorax since i allready had the hybrid skill
Havent looked back since and i must say, pirating in a thorax really is good for business and moral, a few days ago i even solo popped a Megathron, thats right the mighty bs, hard to belive but it was a fairly new player who haddent quite understood the importance of fitting the right stuff

Um...you recognized that the Maller was Amarr but made no mention that you realized so was Punisher...ah nevermind, I assume it was just presumtion that we'd understand the jump from Gal to Am...right?
Just so some little newbies don't get really thrown off I had to point this out. ___________________________________________

Try armored frigates, if you have high frig based skills now, it shouldn't take you long to train it.

425mm rails.
Mega is the longest range sniper around at the moment, but the tachy-geddon outdamages it, and the artypest and artypoc out-volley it.

This is the harsh thing about EVE, each race has a specific ship that you REALLY want to fly.
I like Amarr for:
Apocalypse Armageddon Maller Arbitrator
I like Gallante for:
Ishkur Dominix Megathron
I like Minmatar for:
Projectile Weapons
I like Caldari for:
Hawk Harpy Missiles Scorpian Raven =============================================== *If you don't want me to complain about WCS then don't complain when I gank you with a 5 man fleet just so I have enough points on |

as basic frigates go the kessy has possibly the best damage output out there. but when flying in it you need a frend to fly with you for jamming because a although a kessy can out gun any ship of it's size it really can't tank and jam at the same time.
if anything I say offends STFU. |
