I'm starting level 3's at about 2.6 mil SP (although most of it is in learning, engineering, and science) and want to know what people fit on their caracals (or other cruisers) to do level 3's.
Currently I use: (All t1) 4 Limos Assault Launchers 1 TB 2 L Shield Extenders 1 10 Mn Ab 1 Med Booster 1 Invuln Hardener 1 BCU 1 PDU
I'm thinking of changing out the assault launchers for heavy launchers, switching out the TB for a Nos, removing the Invuln and Ab for 2 rat hardeners, and finally putting a stab where the BCU is in case of scrambling. I'm not sure if I can even fit all of that, but I can't afford a BC anytime soon and would frankly prefer some difficulties in missions
With that, are there any level 3 missions that one should absolutely avoid in a cruiser? Thanks

You should be able to solo all missions with keeping in mind that you know what your doing and will be warping out on some missions.

you'd be best served by a Ferox for L3 missions, the Caracal unless your skills are pretty good, isn't up to a lot of them.

Prior to the most recent patch, I could pretty easily do all level 3s with this setup:
Highs: 5x Assault Launchers Medium: 3x Large Shield Extender IIs, 2x race-specific hardeners (refit from eveinfo.com database). Lows: Shield Power Relay, Ballistic Control System
The biggest problems were the relatively low DPS of the assault launchers and the Pithi Infernos that tend to stay just out of Light Missile range. Train up your shield and missile skills and those aren't a problem.
Post-patch, I haven't played with that setup, so I really can't say. The setup I do have has pretty much an identical tank in terms of DPS it can regen and it hasn't been having trouble. I also haven't gotten any of the super-hard ones yet.

Edited by: Silas Genovese on 01/07/2006 10:33:26 Hey Egas, I've been running level 3's in my Caracal for awhile now and haven't had that many problems since I started using active hardeners (whew!). I use:
5x XR-3200 Heavy 1x F90 Position Sensor Subroutines (sensor booster) 1x Large Shield Extender (Regolith Shield Induction) 1x med shield booster II 1x best named rat specific active hardener 1x ab 2x PDS (or 1x PDS 1x BCU)
I don't see why you would want a Nos on a Caracal, as its a long range missile boat ...Nos are for way closer than you want to be using this ship.
Also, you will quickly find yourself being able to fire a missile further than you can lock a target without using a sensor booster. I can lock normally at 66km's ..I can fire almost 90km's. With my sensor booster I can lock at 105km's. A Caracal is just made for sniping, so use that to your advantage especially seeing as how its not got that great of a tank to begin with.
Occasionally, I will switch out the AB for another hardener for some particularly nasty mission, but usually nothing but those dratted delta support frig II's give me any problems (and those only because I use heavies really).
You may have to warp out/back in for some missions ...mostly those where there are sentries + ships to kill in my experience. Just be prepared to do that (align) and you'll be fine.

There are some nasty lvl 3 misssions that snuck in with the last patch that with 2.6m sp and a cruiser you would be hard pressed to do, however I cant remember their names lol

I do some missions in a caracal, but IMO you need 5 heavies and try to keep as much distance as you can. If you can't warp in at x km's, drop the AB and tank it to hell.
And don't be ashamed to warp out
I'd love to hear war stories from guys who fixed portal to war or rogue slave trader p2 in their caracal

FOlks posting advice... please be sure to represent how many skill points you have and also when you did these L3s.
I've tried doing many L3s on a caracal, and frankly call "BS" on some of these setups i see people talking about on the forums unless you have millions of SP.
Hardeners are a must, obviously, but i dont believe folks can really do all the L3s with just assault missiles. I've tried it. Without ABs and other means to get close, i just dont see that as viable.
I've only got around 340 SP so far and im able to do most of the L3s i've seen using this very newbie setup:
3x malkuth heavies 1x arbalest assault 1x medium shield booster I 1x shield amp I 2x shield resists (dont have proper active hardeners yet) 1x PDS I 1x RCU I
This has cleared about of 4 of the 6 L3 missions ive seen so far (including repeats - i didnt do Illegal Activity or Intercept Smugglers), and will suffice until i get proper active hardeners and my Ferox up and runnin. ----------- Blood Eagle |

I was doing level 3 missions in my Caracal with this setup (yes, all level 3 missions) 4 Heavy Launcher Is 1 Shield Boost Amplifier 1 Medium Shield Booster I 2 Large Shield Extender Is 1 Rat specific resistance amp 2 PDU Is 2 Rat specific light drones
I have 438,858 SP in missiles, 16k in drones, 455,859 in engineering and level 4 Caldari Cruiser.
Overall i have 3 million SP, 1.5 of them in learning. If you don't believe me, then i can refit my Caracal (I stripped a few things to put on my Raven) and go through any level 3 mission.

Just be carefull with the kind of missions u get, if its a high paying mission u better have a good insurance on your caracal.
It is possible to do some lvl 3 missions, but since the last update some have become alot harder.
