Last night I had a discussion with a corp member, who noticed how sad it is that you see only battleships these days.
The main reason for this is that a battleship doesn't need to worry about frigates or cruisers, leading to the current situation where battleships are better at doing anything than the other ship classes.
As we were under the impression that battleships were originally thought to be ships for fleet-combat, not individual combat, we surmised that large weapons should have a very, very slim chance to hit small, fast moving targets only - those large weapons should be good for combat between capital ships only.
As tracking alone doesn't appear to be sufficient to address this another means has to be found.
A very simple solution would be to compare the weapon size to the ship class fired upon and modify the quality of the hit accordingly:
If a large weapon would be fired at a frigate for example, wrecking hits could be reduced to 'barely hits', the category below to 'grazes' and everything else would miss.
Likewise a large weapon fired upon a cruiser could be reduced by two categories.
A medium weapon fired upon a frigate could be reduced by two categories, too.
This would give people the incentive to employ other ships than battleships in combat.

I disagree, A griffin can lock down any battleship, A Black Bird can do the same. Look at how Merc Frig corp kicks major tail with nothing but frigates. and Fear a Kestrel because he just might drop a bunch of cruise missles up your tail pipe....even a Caracal would ruin any BS's day. they may not win...but a battleship is always going to be the main stay. Nonetheless a BB is better in *all* respects than a cruiser or frig. There is no incentive to go back to a cruiser or frig once you have managed to gather the ISK for a BB.
Shouldn't a BB be in need of cruiser and frig escorts?

The fact that my last T-rax was pwned in about 10 seconds by 2 bships travelling at MWD speeds is faintly ridiculous... there ought to be something in place other than EW and missiles (in other words, something that the majority of non-caldari ships can use, especially Gallente) ----------------------------------------------- My Ideas: Drones wish list and NPC crew members |

When the ability to penetrate shields is introduced, im sure it will be better. (I also have a fealing that rails guns might be the best at penetrating shields).

When a battleship uses a MWD they should loose target lock or have a very slim change of actually hitting their target.
I can get the idea of massive velocity, but at such speeds, the huge turrets should have one heck of a time to keep aimed at a target.
Perhaps direction arcs on large weapons would assist in making smaller ships more versatile in combat. Big lumbering ships a slow and cannot get out of the direction line of fire anyways, so large vessel versus large vessel isnĘt a battle of agility, but just raw firepower and defense. Small vessels should be able to position themselves in the blind spots of larger vessels and avoid being shot by large weapons altogether.
Come to think of it, there may be something like this already in place. I know when those little NPC pirates get really close it is a pain to get a good solid hit on them.

It is, when it faces a PvP-kitted group of frigates or cruisers.
4-5 Kestrels with Heavy Missiles can take out a battleship without said bship having the chance to get away, let alone fire. It's only chance are drones.
