Heyo,
Would there be any actual reason to do one over the other? I think the Power of 2 deal comes out to be like ~$12/mo and the buddy invite, including the free 21 day trial and the plex, comes out to roughly $10/month for the first 6 months? or am I doing some ****** math?
Either way would there be a reason to do one over the other besides monies? |

If you create a new account possibly in the future if you let that one inactive you'll either get a offer to reactivate it for a discount or you'll be able to send it one of those reactivation invites that gets you cool stuff (They did a test run of it a month ago)
Also, not 100% but I don't think you can play both power of 2 toons at the same time. I know you can play 3 toons all invited through the buddie system together. |

I thought you could only not have a Trial acct and a full acct. logged in at the same time. If you upgrade the buddy invite immediately, you keep the 21 days, get your plex, and can play simultaneously. At least that's what I think happens.. I mean, the whole point of the power of 2 is to have an alt, so they would probably not make it so you can't have them both logged in at the same time... |

Buddy accounts start as a trial so it can not be dual boxed with a subscribed account on the same computer until you upgrade it. If you run it on another computer there are no issues.
Power of 2 is a full account from the start so it can be dual boxed with your existing account.
As for which is cheaper in the long run, say being subscribed for years. The math I started doing made me realize it wasn't worth doing in the first place. Either you enjoy the game enough to pay for it, with real cash or by playing enough to PLEX the accounts, or you don't and move on to another game.

I've created all my alt accounts (4) with buddy invites to myself. |

exactly, nothing stopping you from upgrading the buddy account right away. ah well I don't have any plans to start a new account any time soon, and if I do I will probably be using my 60d collector's edition code. You can trust me, I have a monocole |

Its also worth taking note of the terms and conditions of the Buddy Invite program.
CCP wrote: The Buddy Program is intended for you to encourage new players to join EVE Online. Violating the purpose of the Buddy Program in any way or form is prohibited. Violations of this rule will be handled by EVE Online Customer Support, and action will be taken against players who violate this rule (including, but not limited to, warnings or bans of the offending accounts).
Abusing the Buddy System is considered an exploit and will not be tolerated. Incidents will be handled on a case by case basis and action taken may include bans for all accounts involved and/or confiscation of ISK and items. Abuse includes, but is not limited to, farming gifts and making throw-away alts for grief-play purposes.
Although I have never heard of anyone having problems when using the Buddy Invite program to create alts for themselves.
The Power of 2 promotion is the official special offer for creating alt accounts. |

Oh wow, yeah I didn't read that at all. Well I guess that makes the decision pretty straightforward.. even if it is never enforced, after posting something like this I feel like they might just take a look :P |

The only real difference is that a PO2 can be entirely funded with ISK while a Buddy Invite requires real cash to to receive the bonuses.

I've used buddy invites for several of my accounts as well, this one included, with no issues so far.....
My guess is that as long as you use them in good faith, CCP doesn't have a problem. Now if you start rolling buddy invites for throw away accounts to avoid or take advantage of certain game mechanics and they become aware of what your doing then expect bad things to happen.
