pros: more damage than T1 heavy drones (but not T2), long range, cheap cons: they don't move, poor tracking, they only come in large

only slighty more damage than t1 heavy drones, they are the most expensive t1 drones AND, they have the tracking of a bs weapon including the 400m sig resolution. -----------------------------

Hmm, I thought they were a touch weaker than heavies.
But as it's been said they track horribly. They're really nice for breaking BS tanks. They are no use for dealing with frigates.
But the most important thing about them that cannot be overstated....
You launch them, you order them to fire, they start doing DPS. You want them back in, you scoop them, they're back in.
If I was missioning in a ship with a 125m3 drone bay I may very well carry 4 sentry drones and 5 lights. Since you can almost instantly switch to lights they're nice. Either take the small stuff out first with lights, or break the BSs down first and then take the small stuff out. I wouldn't do it with a 75m3 drone bay though, probably I'd go for 5 meds and 5 lights.
I love em in PvP though. Drop, bang bang bang.
And it's not _that_ bad if you move away from them, order them to return to drone bay and fly through them and they'll jump in my themselves.

The Garde sentry drones aren't as viable in PVP as Heavy Drones, as your talking close range fighting. However the longer range ones (Warden / Bouncer... Haven't used the Amarr version) have some very nice range, and I regulary use them to pop frigs that are 70 odd km away (ok, so NPC frigs, but meh :P).
I can also think of some fun ways to use the Gardes, where they would be the better choice than heavies, but these are all very specific situations and in general, for close combat (sub 30km) I'd rather a group of heavies over Gardes.
Also, a few Dominix's each with Garde drones and some decent skills can do some very nice volley damage. Your signature is too large! Please resize it according to the forum guidelines. Jacques Archambault |

look at it another way. an example of my experiences with them in PvP.
you are stationary at 40km.
you lock warp scrambler frigates and such, destroyers if there and spare lock slots.
drop garde's.
frigates will pop at 1-3 volleys each unless your unlucky, then sometimes needs one or two more at most.
I've popped destroyers in one volley repeatedly... (this was wonderful in serp ganza the other day.... instapopping half a dozen destroyers and then several frigs... bam bam bam bam... was great)
depending on range and luck, cruisers going down in 4-8 volleys.
then, when the enemy gets too close and/or starts orbiting... insta-scoop, (don't forget you can scoop and re-deploy for brand new shields...) then deploy the regualr drones.
of course I've only used them on a dominix. personally I wouldn't suggest using them on any ship other than a dominix or maybe ishtar.

Gate camping armageddons or dominix are good with them. I know that much.
Get explosive ones, dump'm at range. Get in close with your arma...sit around and wait for something to kill... ---
