I have maxed drone combat skills (all of them)... and decent gunnery/missile skills.
Have been doing L4 missions and the 3-month faction quest lines for the past year...
I've maxed out an Machariel for an incursion fit, but find I prefer to solo when I don't have much game time available...
So my question is if I wanted to do some high sec exploration, which cruiser would be best given my skill set?
I was leaning towards a Ishtar since I'm very heavy on drone skills and my normal L4 mission is a rattlesnake so it would be something I'm used to.
I'd like to be able to use this cruiser as a platform into low sec escalation/sites and ratting later down the road when I'm more comfortable leaving highsec.
Any input is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

T3 cannot enter the 3/10 and 4/10 sites.
The highsec sites are easy (speaking for serp), doable in a vexor, but feature more elites than you usually meet in l4s.
Just consider if you have enough scanning skills , if not, stratios is good.

Yup. T3s are more or less low sec exploration beasts now (or null of course). They can still enter unrated sites in high but that's it.
Stratios is good for what you want. Ishtar is overkill (but there's nothing wrong with overkill). Gila is probably about perfect if you have solid scanning skills as it's more mobile than the others. Cerberus is also popular since you listed the Tengu as an option.
Expect some competition from time to time. Remember, the one to get the killing blow gets the wreck, but the one who gets to the wreck first can loot and warp off without much trouble.
Oh, and for the record: the Loki is awful at this in all space. Don't go that route no matter what. |

Gila fitted with HAMs FTW.
I've been using this fit for quite a while and it is awesome for high sec combat sites.
Gate campers are just Carebears with anger issues. |

Ishtar or Stratios. You use bonused lights or sentries depending on the site, and no risk of skill point loss like in a t3.
Gila is great on paper and functions ok, but in practice your drones lose a lot of dps flying to their targets. |

Medium drones, as long you fit 2 tracking omnis, can be very good, also the "getting from here to there" can be, based on rat type, a non-issue, if you want to kill 30 frigs, just locking them so that they dont get below sentrys is a sufficient annoyance and time factor in favor of just orbiting something while the flyers sort it out by themselves.
(in b4 "just mwd to long range so that any t2 entering the site can beat you to triggers/gate/overseer") |

Picked up my first Gila today. Amazing to see medium drones hitting for 1k. Pretty much warp to site, aggro, launch drones, watch local/dscan.
Tengu is on the way. Roughly 18 days.
Based on how those 18 days go with the Gila(assuming it makes it) I'll see if I make the switch. Ammo-less Gila is attractive I must say. |

Ishtar. Using a 2 Gecko, 2 Hammerhead IIs, and 1 Hobgoblin II you get around 600 dps just from drones. Add in the guns, and you can get over 800 dps. This is assuming max skills. The setup I have used is this:

Alternatively, you can pimp out the above setup and get even more dps out of it. For example, if you know you are going up against onlu Gurista or Serpentis rats you can drop the Armor Explosive Hardener in favor for a another Drone Damage Amp. You can also add faction/deadspace mods to make it even better.

If you want Cov-Ops, get a stratios. Otherwise use an Ishtar.
'Overkill' definately isn't an issue for an Ishtar - it's the perfect exploration boat. |

You can run a lot of sites in a AF.
I have done a lot of the Low sec sites with one.
1-4/10 are easy , Vigil , Minor Annex (depending on race) , all of the escalations from a normal Annex but not the Annex itself. Its also much more fun (not very fast though) . |

Stratios would be high sec cruiser of choice.
Gila or Ishtar for High sec / Low sec mix.
Tengu for null.
You are a RS pilot. You want to do some low sec exploration / PvP.
Training missiles/shields/drones helps your RS. Why you'd train anything other than the Gila is crazy talk.
If you were all guns/armor Istar would be the pick but it won't help with your current main isk maker. |
