I have just purchased the Mammoth and I am very disapointed.
I just find the craft far too slow, I have fitted afterburners but these have little effect.
Any advise on speeding this lump up?

Train these: Acceleration control: U get more speed from ABs Fuel conservation : reduces cap nedded for ABs Navigation: U get more top speed out of our vessel. -------------- When you have exhausted all possibilities, remember this - you haven't. ------------------ (Thomas Edison) |

Depends what/where your hauling imo. If its hauling ore in a system with a station, use a shuttle to set up some bookmarks. Nothing better than coming out of warp within can opening range/docking range. With decent bookmarks you wont need abs/mwd and so on. A proud member of the Concord Waste Recovery Team |

Reports from others is that for the Special Ability bonus to operate you have to train the skill to lvls about that needed to fly the ship.
The Mammoth has an ability bonus of speed, which would fix some of its problems, but it also needs the indy skill at lvl 4 to fly. The result is that you can gain an extra 5% of speed by training to lvl 5 your indy skill!!!!!

I would rather put that training time into Acceleration Control. It's a rank 4 skill so you can get it to level 4 with the same effort it takes to raise the indy skill from level 4 to 5. Acc. Control also gives 5% speed per level, but it's 5% per afterburner so on a Mammoth with 3 afterburners, that's 15% speed increase per skill level, not counting stacking effects.
The second trick, overlooked by many is to get better afterburners. On paper, there doesn't seem to be much difference between the 25% standard ABs and the top-of-the-line 30% Lif boosters, but combined with a few levels of acceleration control and stacking effects, it makes a lot of difference. If you have limited funds, I recommend the Y-S8 afterburners which you can get for 1 mil ea. if you shop around a little.

Actually with Acceleration Control 3 and 4 LiF Rockets my mammoth hauls ass when not encumbered with cargo expanders because of the speed bonus finally working.
The problem is there's no chance to utilize that speed. I hit a gate before it finishes accelerating and any single webifier will essentially halt it in its tracks (it's not mwd speed after all).
I mean its like you want corporations to oblige each other like its sex or something. Pffft I would rather **** my enemy.- Rohann
Be careful out there. That other guy waiting in the queue for the gate MIGHT be a baby-munching frock-burner, YOU JUST DON'T KNOW!- Lallante |

Get some of the local hull nanofibre hull mods, adds 21 to speed x 3 = 63 extra speed, and they add 8% each to the cargo. Of course, if youre wanting maxium cargo capacity then youll be dropping quite a bit compared to fitting with 3 x 27& expanders.

my mamuth top speed is 480 m/s ...was very suprised that with couple of modifikations its possible to get a cannon ball from it ...
4 afterburners with 3 ss modified ....and the job is done ... u get a penalty in cargo but is useful when jumping a big distances ....
