An x-girlfriend of mine had a friend over on Ireland die due to a powerfailure at a hospital which lacked a back-up generator. I think it's pretty dead on.

Actually, unless something has changed in the last year or two, the Republic of Ireland is one of the largest software exporters on earth. It has branch operations of major US and international developers and manufacturers. Mind you, there are still parts especially the rural northwest where people still live life pretty simple, and a few people still speak Gaelic as their first language.
Anyway you slice it, I'm ethnically Irish too and am not offended. Mind you if the poster had been a UK veteran paratrooper, there mighta been a few more offended people.

a) Not Irish
b) Don't understand the Irish canny sense of humor.
It was the Irish who invented the bagpipes, to **** warriors off enough to charge fearlessly into battle to escape the pipes.
It was the Irish (Scots Highlanders are actually Irishman) who invented golf so the English would whack a little ball as far as they could hit it then chase it (and go away. Far away). Who knew the whole world would fall for that one.
It was the Irish who invented whiskey to befuddle the English and make them easy prey. Admittedly, this one kind of backfired on us :P
